Even though Shoreham-Wading River, Long Island, is technically two towns, at heart we're one. Since not being able to wait to get out of there and go away to college, I have now learned that your hometown is everything. Yes, being away at times is necessary and all, but coming home for breaks or even for less than 24 hours on a weekend is the biggest breath of fresh air. To those who are fortunate enough to live and to have grown up in SWR...I think you can relate.
1. Wading River Pizza and La Bistro are basically God's gift to the world.
2. Everywhere you go in our little bubble of a town, it's a guarantee you will see someone you know—and it normally happens when you look like a wreck in Bagel Buddies the morning after a late night out.
4. We used to party in a sump...I mean, who else can say that that's what they used to spend their weekends doing? At least we get creative.
5. And the suspense of waiting for the cops to break up the infamous beach parties and the thrill of running from those cops, even when we didn't have to, never got old.
6. Our varsity sports teams are well known around Long Island and are pretty successful for the most part from year to year. From Long Island Championships to State Championships, yeah, we're pretty awesome.
7. There's a high chance you will see one of the Kardashians or Scott Disick at some point in CVS or King Kullen, and that's when you become one with the paparazzi.
8. Everyone knows everyone and everything. Got a secret? Keep it—unless you're okay with the whole town knowing about it within 10 minutes.
9. McDonald's parking lot late night used to be the place to be—which really just consisted of sitting in your car next to your friend's car with the windows down until McDonald's shut off the parking lot lights.
10. Lastly and most importantly, we have the best guardian angels out there that are looking over each and every one of us every day.
The list goes on and the memories are forever. Times change and people grow, but never forget where you came from and what molded you into the person you are today.
