10 Reasons Your Grandparents Are Your Biggest Blessing

Grandma and Grandpa,

You have both positively impacted my life in tremendous ways. From your stories, your kindness, to your words of encouragement, I wouldn't have made it through some of the hardest parts of my life without you both by my side. The wisdom, the advice, and the stories you both share continue to teach me as I grow. I truly could not imagine my life without you two. Here are just a few of the examples of why grandparents, in general, are a true blessing.

1. They never let you go hungry.

Grandparents never let their grandchildren go hungry. Even if you say you are full or don't want anything to eat, a grandparent will offer to go to the store miles away or cook you your favorite meal all to make you happy.

2. They tell you you're musically talented when you are clearly tone deaf.

Grandparents never have a mean thing to say. Even if you are tone deaf, you sing like an angel to them and in all honesty, their opinion is the only thing that really matters anyways.

3. They always compliment you even on your worst day.

When you feel like you have gained some weight or are simply going through a hard time, grandparents always know the right thing to say. They are your biggest supporters on and off the field. No matter the situation, your grandparents always know how to talk you through your problem(s). They have the power to turn your day around with a simple phone call.

4. They market you to the world as the smartest person they know.

Whether you failed an exam or feel like you are not good enough, a grandparent will make you realize that all those thoughts are untrue. They will gloat to their friends about how amazing and successful you are doing. Who cares if you passed that test. To them, you are intelligent and make them proud no matter what you decide to do with your life.

5. They have life experiences from that you can learn a lot.

Grandparents have seen and been through it all. They have tons of stories and wisdom to share that will help you as you grow. Be sure to always ask questions and advice because they have so much knowledge that can really help down the road.

7. They teach you what hard work, determination, perseverance, self-confidence, and never losing hope actually mean.

A lesson my grandparents and I am sure a lot of other grandparents have taught are no matter what life throws your way, you must be strong and never give up. Life is not always going to be easy. We must learn how to persevere no matter the obstacles ahead. They teach us always look at the positive aspects and be thankful for what you have rather than pick at all the trivial problems.

8. They have the answers to everything.

Grandparents have been through a lot during their lifetime. They have lived. Between raising their own families and going through many of the same obstacles we are currently facing and will face in the future, the world has changed drastically since they were young, but their advice and stories always connect with us. They are practically walking history books. They somehow know the answer to any question. Whether it be a question regarding family history or needing help with a subject at school, grandparents always know the answer. All throughout high school and still till this day, I call my grandparents to either ask a medical question as to why I may be sick or a logical question. Regardless of how ridiculous I may sound, they always have an answer and it never seems to surprise me!

9. They display and collect your art and pictures like museum curators.

Whether you can paint a circle or a remake of Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night, grandparents always display their grandchildren's pictures and art work for all their friends to see. They are proud of you know matter what and you are a VIP in their eyes.

10. They love you unconditionally.

Grandparents are the people in your life that love you for you. They want the best for you and to them, that is what is important. They know that life is short and will continue to remind you how great of a person you are, so you know it.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
