10 Reasons Why Georgia Is The Best State

Everyone feels as though their state is the best in the United States. Of course, they are terribly wrong, unless they are from the Peach State. Georgia is by far the best state and here are a few reasons why.

1. We have southern hospitality

Growing up we were always taught to say “please,” “thank you,” “Ma’am” and “Sir.” Having manners is a big deal and you did not want your parents to hear about you not using your manners. Also, instead of insulting you outright, you get to hear “Bless your heart” instead.

2. We have a variety of different southern accents.

I did not know this until I moved from Northwest Georgia to Southeast Georgia. There is a noticeable difference between an Appalachian accent from North Georgia and the Atlanta accent or Coastal accent.

3. We have the best scenery.

We have breathtaking views from our mountains, waterfalls, and beaches. Hiking, kayaking and swimming are a great way to get out and about while exploring all of the natural beauty Georgia has to offer.

4. Football.

We take our high school and college football seriously. Friday nights are meant for rooting for your local high school team, while Saturdays are reserved for watching the Dawgs play.

5. Even our big cities have a tight-knit community.

Atlanta, Augusta and Savannah are a few examples of our bigger cities with a close knit community. These cities offer the big city feel with the camaraderie of a small town.

6. Our housing market is amazing.

This is the best time to buy a house in Georgia. It is almost shocking to some when they compare the real estate prices from their home state to Georgia’s. You cannot blame them though, since the average price of a home in Georgia is $133,000 instead of the national average of $180,000.

7. Never-ending peaches.

We basically have a neverending supply of one of the best fruits. Plus, it gives Georgia girls the cute name of “Georgia Peaches.”

8. Coca-Cola.

We are the home of the classic soda, and no, Pepsi is not OK.

9. Chick-Fil-A.

Once again, we are the home of the best fast food restaurant. You are lying to yourself if you say that Chick-Fil-A does not have the best chicken….and manners.

10. Entertainment.

Our entertainment industry is currently booming. With lower tax rates and beautiful backgrounds, plenty of movies and TV shows are being filmed in Georgia.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
