High school. If I learned anything from it, it's that no one in the entire world has a perfect high school experience, and almost everyone enjoys the perks of college more than high school. For me personally, college is amazing and will forever be better than high school. Don't believe me? Here's a few reasons why.

1. You live on your own.

Being on your own is tricky at first, but it's amazing once you get the hang of it! There's nothing like the grown-up feeling of cleaning your room and doing your laundry, or doing your homework without your parents having to tell you seven times.

2. Classes are so much better.

Professors in college actually care about what they're teaching, which makes the class so much better! You also get to choose which classes you want to take, so the classes you pick you usually really enjoy/care about. It's all so much better than taking the same classes as everyone else!

3. No more drama.

College is so much more chill. While you can never avoid drama for the rest of your life, drama just doesn't work like it does in high school. We're all adults now, and we either talk out our problems face to face or you're left behind on the social train. Bye bye, drama queen.

4. No parents

While we all love and miss our parents, it's so much easier living without them. You can come home whenever you want and go wherever you want without having to explain where you're going and who you're going to be with and if they're parents are going to be there.

5. No one knows where you came from.

It doesn't matter what your reputation in high school was, now is the time to reinvent yourself for the better! Get rid of that embarrassing nickname and the story about that time your peed yourself on the playground in third grade. Start fresh!

6. You discover your true self.

You're on your own, figuring out what you like and don't like, what you can offer to the world, and who you really are. One of the biggest parts of maturing is figuring out who you are.

7. Not being in your old town anymore.

I'm from a small town where all the people around me I'd known since i was 6. Moving to a new town with a new change of pace, new people and new things to explore is amazing.

8. Finding your lifelong friends.

College is where you find your friend group that's going to be there for you until the end. You're friends with people because you enjoy them, not just because they're in your high school clique.

9. Less judgement.

Wear pajamas all day, eat Nutella out of a jar in class, get drunk on a Tuesday, whatever you want, no one cares! I have seen people wearing pajamas at church before and only thought "same."

10. Classes don't start before 9 a.m

Want to stay in bed till 10? You can schedule your classes like that! No more waking up at 6 a.m. for seven hours of straight schooling!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
