Bemidji State University is known for it's motto, "Best Decision Ever!" and as lame we all admit it is, we secretly admit it's true. No matter where you came from or where you go after you graduate we can all agree Bemidji State was our best decision ever...and here's why...
1. Lake Bemidji
Our campus is on a lake. Talk about relaxing! During the summer and fall we can sit by the water and work on homework or go for a swim. In the winter we can ice fish, snowmobile, and ice skate on a frozen lake.
2. Hockey
Hockey games aren't just a tradition, they are a way of life in Bemidji. Being one of the biggest hockey towns in Minnesota, we don't mess around when it comes to Beaver Hockey. Friday and Saturday nights at the Sanford Center are a MUST and wearing those green striped overalls in the student section constitutes as another best decision ever.
3. The Lodge
Commonly known as the C Store, it's our convenience store on campus. We use it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and every snack in between. It's also a dumping ground for all the leftover BeaverBucks at the end of the semester.
4. Wally's Breakfast
Wally's is our dining hall and, after a few visits, becomes hopelessly boring. But for some strange reason, they are amazing at breakfast. Pancakes galore, french toast, waffles, fruit, and made-to-order omelettes make Monday mornings a little more bearable.
5. Tunnels
Most people think we are crazy for going to college in Northern Minnesota, especially with winters that plunge into -40 temperatures. But we just ignore them because we have tunnels throughout campus and sometimes don't even go outside to brave the frozen winters.
6. Football
Just because we're Division II football doesn't make our school spirit any less. On almost every fall Saturday, you can see the school decked out in our green and white stripes across the student section. Win or lose, the Chet Anderson Stadium is always packed with Beaver fans!
7. Game Cleaning Room and Gun Lockers
Bemidji State is the only university in the state to have gun lockers. Located in such a beautiful region of Northern Minnesota, many students take advantage of hunting grounds. The school gun lockers are a safe place to store them. The Game Cleaning room is another great asset to have, and allows hunters to clean their game outside of their dorms. To many students this is a luxury they love having at their school.
8. Upper Deck
If you're up late studying or craving some late night food, Upper Deck is perfect. Upper Deck is Bemidji State's late night dining option. You can order chicken fingers to burgers to personalized pizza at the counter. It's a great place to hang out with friends, eat food, and watch hockey on the big screen. And yes, it totally constitutes as a healthy dinner.
9. Downtown Bemidji
Downtown Bemidji is a great place for a fun shopping day or a night out with friends. It's known for it's great bars and good shopping. It's a reward to munch on Brigid's Pub's mac and cheese bites after a long week of classes. Or to pick up a pair of those beautiful green and white striped overalls, the ones you see students wear to football and hockey games, from Cool Threads.
10. The "ARC"
At BSU, you have no excuse to fail a class if you're part of the FYRE (First Year Residential Experience). In Oak Hall, there's a free tutoring center, the Academic Resource Center (ARC), and you can get free tutoring for your classes as much as you need it from Upperclassmen in the halls. It's open every night. Not many colleges have free tutoring so at BSU it's important to take advantage of that. Whether it's help for a math test or you just need someone to quiz you with flash cards for a Spanish exam- the ARC is there every night.
Whether you're an incoming, current or graduated student at BSU, everyone agrees it's the best decision ever.
