10 Reasons Why Being A Big Sister Is The Hardest Job In The World

Little siblings are built-in best friends. They know how to make you laugh, they know all your secrets but most importantly they know that they can come to you if they need help. You know everything about them. You know that your baby brother gets really mad when you ask if he has girlfriend and that your other baby brother is deathly afraid of mice and you know that your little sister is just as tough on the outside as she is on the inside. You know these things because you have one of the most amazing jobs in the world. You’re the big sister. Of course this job isn’t all fun and games..

1. You have to be the best at everything.

Well, you don’t have to be the best. But let's face it...You have to be the best.

2. You’re the first one to experience everything.

While you had to learn how to do everything on your own, your siblings have it easy. They can ask you how to apply for jobs, create bank accounts, and even write a great college admissions essay. Life just isn’t fair.

3. You’re in charge of protecting everyone.

You and your siblings are home alone at night and there’s a thump in the basement! Without even thinking, you tell them to go in the bedroom and lock the door. Have no fear, big sister is here.

4. Your siblings watch everything you do.

To a certain extent, your siblings want to be just like you. You have to be someone you want your siblings to be. No pressure.

5. You’re the oldest. You should have known better.

So, you did something wrong. But your little sister did the same thing first! What’s your parents' favorite line? “You’re the oldest, you should have known better.” Give me a break.

6. Congrats, you got your license! Now you’re the chauffeur.

One of the most exciting days of your life is here! No more school bus for you... or any of your siblings. And also, your brothers need to be picked up from basketball and your sister needs to be dropped off for clarinet lessons, and also, can you run to Walmart and grab a few things while you’re out?

7. You’re not just the big sister; you’re the bodyguard.

Your little sibling falls off his bike going down the hill and you swear you’ve never ran so fast in your life.

8. Your siblings get on your last nerve, but you can’t stay mad.

We all know the copy game, where your siblings feel the need to repeat every single thing you say. You’ve never encountered anything more annoying. Your parents say it’s because they love you and at the end of they day you know it’s true.

9. The hardest job of all is making sure your siblings are all okay.

If your little sister or brother is sad, so are you. The worst feeling in the world is when your siblings are sad. But you know how to cheer them up. “Don’t smile, your face is gonna crack!” works every time.

10. You wouldn’t change anything.

Being a the big sister is hard, but it’s the most amazing experience in the world. You have best friends for life. No matter what happens, your siblings still love you and you still love them.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
