10 Reasons You Should Live With Your Best Friend

Starting college is the most overwhelming thing I have ever experienced—the classes, the thousands of new people, and trying to figure out campus on top of all that. The last thing anyone wants in that situation is getting to know the living habits of a stranger in a 15 x 15 dorm room. I came into college with my best friend of 16 years by my side, and we didn’t think twice about rooming together despite the stereotypical “never room with someone you know” advice.

Sometimes you even hear, "especially not your best friend." My advice is to ignore that advice. If you have a best friend coming to college with you, rooming with them is only going to make you closer. You already know each others' weird idiosyncrasies, so you don't have to be worried about surprises.

I promise you are in for an unforgettable year with them, and really who else would you rather make college memories with? Living with your best friend is better because...

  1. You always have someone to vent to after a hard day. Whether you just bombed a calc exam or you fell off your bike on the first day of school (yes, that did happen to me), you have a set of ears to listen to you and also probably laugh at you.
  2. You have someone to laugh at your jokes. Your best friend is always waiting for you to do or say something hilarious, so be prepared for endless laughter.

  3. Someone to sing Taylor Swift at the top of your lungs with while getting ready, and someone to drive to Target with you on the release day of Taylor Swift's album 1989.

  4. Someone to binge watch "The Office" and "Friends" with–and from then on, quote every line of both shows.

  5. Someone to workout with, or just order Dominoes and Midnight Cookies with.
  6. Someone who understands your weirdness. Their weirdness is probably at or above your level of weirdness, so nothing to worry about here.

  7. You don’t have to ask to borrow anything. People start to wonder whether your clothes belong to you or your roommate.

  8. They are there for you to act as your mom when you are missing your real family.
  9. Basically you get to double your closet…this was also true in high school but now you don’t have to drive 10-15 minutes to borrow anything.
  10. In high school, you usually weren't allowed to have school night sleepovers, but now it's a sleepover every night!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
