10 Reasons To Get Away This Summer

Sometimes you just need to take that chance, drop everything and go somewhere worthwhile.

Getting up and leaving everything on whim can be one of the most influential decisions that you have ever made in your life. Here are 10 reasons to do just that.

1. Every Summer In The Same City?

I know home is where the heart is, but spending every summer the same way can be boring. There are other cities and destinations out there that have the same attractions and even new ones to test your imagination. If your home houses your heart, where might you find other parts of you?

2. Laziness will be at an all-time high

Let's be honest, your online time will reach a peak during the summer. Where else do you need to be? You will look at Facebook, Twitter, and other various platforms more than you eat during the summer.

3. Parents can be a drag

You're in college, but your parents will still treat you like a 10-year-old. Whenever they get on your nerves, maybe that is a sign to cruise Expedia.

4. You go out every night anyway

If you are like me, then you go out every night to hang out with your friends until 1:00 A.M. Might as well do that in another city, so you encounter new sights and people.

5. Get away before college ends

Explore the world while you have the time because once college ends, there will be no time for fun and festivities.

6. You have watched every series on Netflix

There are only so many shows on Netflix that you can binge watch all summer. Instead of watching shows about people in other places, actually go to these places to learn something new for a change.

7. Get into some new food

Anthony Bourdain is no fool. Wandering the world and eating weird stuff all week sounds like a good way to kill some summer time.

8. Something is missing

Your hometown cannot have everything unless you live somewhere like San Francisco. Take Albuquerque for example -- where's the beach? Nowhere! That should be an invitation to head somewhere with a beach and soak up the sun.

9. Why Not?

Unless you're a prisoner in your own home, there's nothing holding you back. Take 10 minutes to think about the possibilities. When those are through, start thinking about what you need to do to get there.

10. You Might Fall in love

You never know what is going to happen in a new city. You might go there just to have fun and end up falling in love with the city itself or someone you meet there.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
