Our story is a different than the average "freshmen year roommate" story. So, first of all I'm so thankful we went from hating each other to being best friends. From awkwardly not having each other's numbers for the first 3 months to being in the same apartment senior year-we came a long way. We both came into college unsure of where these next few years would take us and how our first time living in a college dorm would be. Although we had some ups and downs, I would not have wanted to spend it with anyone else. Years later you are still my "freshmen year roomie". So here are just some things I have to thank you for:
1. Teaching Me Bunk Beds Are Never a Good Idea
Even though both of us never wanted them in the first place...we tried it in attempt to save space in the tiny dorm rooms. Every night I felt like the bunk was going to collapse on me and you purposely fell asleep in other people's rooms to avoid climbing up the ladder to your room. It was also scary because I could never tell if you were up there. WORST idea ever.
2. Telling Me When I Looked Like Crap
Thank you for telling me when my outfit looked dumb, my hair was a mess, or my makeup was going all over the place when I was a drunk slob. Somebody had to do it.
3. Making Me Laugh
You're funny sometimes.
4. Teaching Me How To Share A Room With Someone
Coming into college, neither of us had ever had a roommate before or had to share a room. Obviously this was a huge transition for us. From awkwardly bumping into each other as we tried to maneuver around the room to simply just yelling at each other to turn off the light and pick up our stuff...we figured it out.
5. Letting Me Use The Big Shower In The Communal Shower
Just kidding, that never happened. We used to fight to the death for that thing. This includes taking each others towels and hiding them so the other would have to wait soaking wet in the nasty shower.
6. Not Judging Me For Napping Through Lectures
7. Snacking With Me
You were always down to just eat gross junk food and watch Netflix in our beds. Even though I used to think you brought back the most random foods, I always ended up loving them, i.e. brie cheese, edamame, etc.
8. Pillow Talk
During those times, I felt like I could tell you anything that happened from that day to random stories from high school. Or we would simply just start goofing off. We slowly, but surely, got to know each other and we would sit in bed for hours just talking until someone awkwardly whispered "night" in the silence.
9. Providing Me With A Second Closet
Aside from the fact that you were always offering to share your clothes with me, you also decided to let me where your shoes and go barefoot at a party one night when one of my flip-flops broke. True lifesaver.
10. Being A Best Friend
You are more than just a freshmen year roommate. You are my friend for life and someone I will always be able to count on. I will forever be blessed that Saint Anselm College randomly selected the two weirdest degenerates to move into JOA 116 freshmen year. Love you a million!
