7 Reasons To Thank Your Older Sibling
Daniella Luciano

While being an only child might be wonderful, I personally cannot relate. I was blessed with an older sibling, a sister to be exact. While we may have had little, irrelevant tiffs growing up, today we remain close. Although as youngsters we were still close, over time, our relationship has grown more fortified and we would do anything to help each other out. While not everyone is super close with their siblings, I can only speak for myself when I say that both my sister and I are very close and maintain a great relationship. There are many differences we have experienced, but more times than not, I have only had reasons to appreciate her and thank her.

1. Hey, remember that one dance where your mother decided to drop you off in her soccer mom mini van? Well, now that your sibling just turned 17, you can arrive in a far cooler manner. While materialistic, it displays your sibling wants you to look your best at all times. On that note, a brother or sister can always turn that tenth like into the notorious eleventh on your super fire Insta selfie.

2. Ever need an overly honest opinion? Well, look no further. I mean, who else will actually tell you, “yes, that outfit DOES make you look fat"? The brutal honesty has segued into your beautiful and harmonious relationship you have today.

3. On that note, what sibling would want their sibling to go out and tarnish the family name? Older siblings will help you and ensure you go out looking fierce and will never allow you to look absolutely ridiculous.

4. Any mistake your parent made on your older sibling, they hopefully revised for your turn. My mother always says, “You’re sister was the first one. I learned from her.” This is totally true. I am happy that the revisions were made when it was my turn to screw up in the same way. Now, my parents expect and respond in a totally different light. Woohoo.

5. When Mom or Dad annoys you and you think there is nowhere to turn, look to your left…or right and you’ll see your sibling standing by your side. They can easily relate to the issue at hand and are a great resource to vent to without running to your parents. Friends are amazing, but only siblings can fully relate to the parental obstacles you may be forced to overcome.

6. When friends get annoying, your sibling can never be removed from your life. She or he is the one you can tell absolutely anything to. While they may judge you, it is only because they love you and want you to succeed in every way possible.

7. Whether you realize it or not, they are the crane to always lift you up. When times get rough in any regard, they are there for you and will always try to lift your mood and remove you from the negative situation. Never forget to thank them for the constant effort to bring your mind to a better place, despite any miniscule argument you may get into.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
