10 Reasons Why I March
Women's March on Washington

On Jan. 21, (the day after Trump's inauguration), everyone who believes that women's rights are human rights will attend the Women's March in Washington D.C. I am excited to be a part of something that will advance the cause of justice and equality for all. Here are ten reasons why I will march and why I am proud to do so.

1. To use my voice to stick it to the man (literally).

There comes a point where one must step out from behind a computer keyboard and physically show the power behind the feminist movement. I believe that the force behind our march will resonate across oceans and decades.

2. Because 2016 was kind of the year of the feminist bubble burst.

We were all expecting for the highest glass ceiling to shatter but Trump’s election brought the opposite effect. We had the opportunity to elect our first female president, but instead we elected a man with a complete lack of respect towards women.

3. To fight for the Equal Rights Amendment, which has yet to be ratified.

The Amendment was first proposed in 1923 and the re-proposed in 1970 but failed to be ratified due to anti-women sentiment. It would guarantee equal rights for women because we still do not have them.

4. Because Trump wants to shut us up.

He has not made organizing the march easy. From restricting permits to wanting to block off the route, he has been trying to shut the march down from the start.

5. To fight for the rights of myself and every woman.

The men in the office are stripping away at women’s rights piece by piece. States are beginning to ban abortion, defund Planned Parenthood, and now with the repeal of Obamacare, millions of women will no longer have access to safe and affordable birth control.

6. Because the underbelly of American beliefs needs to be publically acknowledged.

We live in an inherently sexist and racist society, with a misogynistic and exceedingly paternalistic government. In order to begin to change, a community of like-minded must merge together for others to feel our power and believe in our integrity.

7. To ensure that women’s rights are human rights,

And human rights are women’s rights.

8. Because I deserve the same rights as your son.

I deserve to do with my body what I will. I deserve to be paid the same as a man because I do the same work. I deserve the promises that our nation made, and so does everyone else.

9. To show that 2017 is going to be filled with humanity.

In order for humanity to shine, it must, unfortunately, be surrounded by inhumanity. For millions of people all over the country to come together for human rights shows nothing but power and love.

10. Because women are the wall,

And Trump will pay. Let’s have him be the uncomfortable one this time.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
