I know, Indiana is not always the best when It comes to bipolar weather or the flatness of central Indiana geography, but coming from a born and raised Hoosier, it’s not all bad. Here are 10 reasons Hoosiers love it no matter what.
1. We have some of the best universities.
IU, Purdue, Ball State, Notre Dame, Butler. Need I say more?
2. Even though it does not last long, fall in Indiana is magical.
The leaves change color and the air is nice and crisp but not too cold. Indy Scream Park is open for business and football games are a Friday night ritual. Did I mention how awesome the bonfires are?
3. When we tailgate, we go hard.
Go to any football game and I promise there will be buffalo wild wings and for those who are 21 and over, ice cold beer.
4. We are damn proud of the Indy 500, even if we haven’t been to a single race.
We may not go to the race but we know how people come from all over the world to see the race.
5. Basketball is everything.
Have you seen the movie Hoosiers? It is an issue if you haven't.
6. The State Fair is one of the best end-of-summer activities.
Two Dollar Tuesdays, Sketchy Rides, and Henna.
7. Tenderloins, Sugar Cream Pie, and yes, corn.
Our moms and grandmas make the best sugar cream pie, each with their own variation of the recipe.
8. Road trips to Brown County during the fall.
Enough said.
9. Turkey Run and Clifty Falls.
Enough said part two.
10. The somewhat unknown cave system.
A little-known fact is that there are quite a few caves to go and explore. It’s a hidden gem that Indiana has.
