All right guys. I’m Muslim, but I’m pretty sure I love Christmas just as much or maybe even more than many of you. The holidays are my favorite time of year for many reasons, but here are a few as to why the end of December makes me so happy!
1. Lights and Decorations

Nothing is more comforting than driving down the road and seeing lights upon lights, brightening up the world around us. Christmas lights are one of my favorite parts of Christmas because it’s an expression of individual talents! Light placement is truly an art and seeing all the different designs and layouts intrigues me. Plus, the colorful lights and blow-up Santas make everything so festive!
2. Sales

The best part of Christmas shopping for someone who doesn’t celebrate Christmas is that you get all the sales and get to keep everything you buy! I get some of my friends gifts, but there are no obligatory presents, no pressure. All pleasure.
3. Gifts

To the friends who I exchange gifts with or the ones who surprise me, THANK YOU! Giving gifts and receiving them is so incredibly heartwarming; the thought of someone liking you enough to buy you a present is so sweet!
4. Cookies

CHRISTMAS COOKIES! THERE ARE NO BETTER PASTRIES IN THIS WORLD.
5. Christmas Movies

"ELF!" Nothing brings you into the Christmas spirit more than a Christmas movie. Whether it’s traditional or a comedy, both get you in the mood to drink hot cocoa and eat Christmas cookies, just like Santa!
6. Christmas Music

ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS…to listen to Christmas music! So many classics and newbies… Michael Buble's Christmas album. <3
7. Ugly Sweaters

UGLY SWEATER PARTIES. WHO DOESN’T WANT A REINDEER ON THEIR CHEST?!
8. Chinese Food

OK, one strange tradition most Muslims and Jews partake in is getting Chinese food and going to the movies on Christmas. Christmas isn’t complete without some kung pao chicken!
9. The Charity

All right, now it’s time to get serious. Christmas is great because everyone is so charitable, donating toys, food and money. This is the real point of the holidays: to honor a religious figure and to help thy neighbor, so giving is my favorite part of the holidays.
10. The Christmas Spirit

Along with feeling charitable, people are generally nicer during the holidays! Whether it’s tipping a little more, paying for a stranger's coffee, or just doing a good deed; the holidays bring about a positive spirit like no other! The most wonderful time of the year is right, because during the holidays, everything is just better.
So yeah, Christmas in America as a Muslim. It's a great time. I love Jesus too, and I love the Christmas spirit! I wish you all the happiest of holidays and a relaxing break! Feel free to put a stocking on the mantle for me!
