10 Reasons Why You're My Best Friend

I could list many more reasons than just ten, but here are some of my favorites.

First of all, I want to say thank you for coming into my life, I thank God every day to have someone as amazing as you. I know I don’t always tell you how I feel about our friendship or how much I treasure it but here it goes.

1. You're always down for spontaneous "dates."

I know you’re only a text away when I’m bored out of my mind and feeling a little adventurous. I can always count on you to pick me up in 5 and we just drive around aimlessly for hours listening to music.

2. You’re there for me no matter what.

Even when you’re mad at me you still manage to help me through everything whether it’s help with homework or some dumb boy. You listen to me and let me vent and then you always know exactly what to say to make me feel better.

3. All the inside jokes.

Throughout the years there have been endless laughs and memories made. Sometimes we find ourselves laughing at the jokes we made back in middle school that weren’t even that funny but kind of stupid actually. Some of the best laughs come from all the jokes that have been shared.

4. I know I can make fun of you and you won’t be offended (and vice versa).

Going back to reason number 3, I think most of our jokes relate to us just making fun of each other. Whether it’s laughing at our random blonde moments or pulling a prank on the each other, I can always count on you for a good laugh.

5. You always know how to cheer me up.

When I’m having a bad day you know exactly what will make me feel better. Even though sometimes we’re not together you still send me cute dog videos from Facebook because you know that’ll put a smile on my face in about 2 seconds. Of course, it’s better when you’re here because then you can pick me up to get ice cream and drive around, nothing beats that.

6. You’ve seen me at my worst and still love me for who I am.

When I’m broken up about something whether it be a boy or a bad grade and I’m just miserable you comforted me and gave me time to heal and get past that rough patch and I love you for it.

7. We can hang out for days (and sometimes weeks) in a row and not get tired of each other.

We used to get on each other’s last nerve when we hung out for a couple of hours but as we’ve gotten older I think we’ve both learned to appreciate each other more and more. I can spend each day with you and somehow we still manage to find a new adventure.

8. When we see each other for the first time in a long time, it’s like we were never apart.

Sometimes it can be awkward for people to hang out after going months without seeing each other, but not us. I think I could move across the country for a year then come back and things would not change one bit.

9. You always seem to have my best interests at heart.

Whether it’s clothes, boys, or jobs, you always tell me straight up what you think even if it’s not exactly what I want to hear. You tell me how it is and even though I may not be happy hearing it, I know it’s probably true because you’re always thinking of me.

10. We can communicate with a “look.”

If we make eye contact at the right time in certain situations and we give each other “that look” we know we’re thinking the exact same thing. I mean we’ve basically been the same person since the day we met but we don’t need words to communicate, a simple glance from the other side of the room will get our point across.

Basically what I’m saying is that I love you. I love you for who you are as a person and for being in my life every day. I’m beyond grateful to have someone like you and I’m not sure what I would do without you. You keep me on my toes day in and day out but that’s what makes this friendship so exciting and strong. Always know that I’m here for you the same way you’re there for me. Thanks for being my best friend.

Parks and Recreation excitedly gathered around a laptop at a table in an office setting.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
