As told in Material Girls, “diamonds are a girl’s best friend.” Whoever agrees with this has obviously never owned a dog. I’ve owned dogs my entire life. From the moment I was born I lived with a beagle/basset hound mix named Copper. He was my best friend as a kid. After he passed away, my family and I adopted three more dogs. I can also say now that those dogs are my best friends. Here’s some of the top reasons why dogs are a girl’s best friend.

1. They make you smile when you cry

Whether you’re upset, sad, angry, or crying, your dog will come up to you and give you a bunch of big puppy kisses. Just a look into those big puppy eyes will make your heart melt and see the world as a better place.

2. You always have a cuddle buddy

Who says you need a significant other to have someone to cuddle with? No matter the size, dogs are always up for a good snuggle on the couch with you under the blanket. Whether the dog is a Great Dane or a Chihuahua, they can always be considered a lap dog.

3. Dogs are always loyal

If you’ve ever had someone cheat on you or break your trust, fear not! A dog will never leave you. They think of you as family, and according to Lilo and Stitch “Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten”.

4. They keep you company

Don’t have any weekend plans with friends? No problem! A dog is always willing to spend the night in with you. You could be watching a movie, or just lying in bed sleeping. As long as they’re with you and you’re happy, they’re happy. I know most of my Friday nights call for movie nights with one of my puppies.

5. They teach you responsibility

Growing up I always had chores to do for the dogs. I either had to take them outside, feed them, give them baths, or take them for walks. Having dogs taught me what it was like to have to care for someone else.

6. You always have a conversation Partner

Even if you two don’t speak the same language, it’s so easy to have a conversation with your dog. If you’re excited about something, they get excited. If you’re sad about something, they’re sad. They can listen to what you have to say all day.

7. They're always happy to see you

Dogs are the only ones who will welcome you like you’ve been gone for 20 years. As soon as they hear the car pull up, they get excited. They run around the house, they wag their tail, and they make that happy barking sound. Then the second you come through the door, they come running to you to give you big puppy hugs and big puppy kisses.

8. You never have to worry about cleaning your plate.

Dogs are just like little vacuum cleaners. If you drop something on the floor, they are right there to clean it up. I know as a little kid, when I didn’t like something, I would just give it to the dog. It’s a win-win situation. They get food, and you get rid of something you don’t want.

9. They don’t judge you.

People are judged for many reasons. It might be for bad grades, not doing a job right, being with the wrong people, or just not acting a certain way. Dogs don’t really care what you do or how you act. They are happy with you just the way you are.

10. They love you unconditionally.

Dogs love you for who you are. They don’t care about your past or your mistakes. They love you no matter, even if you yell at them. A dog is a member of your family, and they treat it like so. They will protect at any cost. They will love you forever, and you will love them too.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
