Where did the term “a dog is a man’s best friend” even come from? Women have [obviously] come such a long way and we deserve to equalize this phrase. My pup Levi has helped shape the woman I have become and if that is not a best friend, I don’t know what is.
Here are a slew of reasons dogs are also a woman’s best friend:
1. That dog will listen for hours. I mean you could sit on your couch for 3 hours and tell him what Deborah said to Jimmy at IKEA and that dog will be so intrigued with you that you won’t ever stop talking.
Look at him listening like the little dog therapist that he is.
2. He/she loves you so much like every man should, even when we play hard to get.
3. No matter the size, a dog is the perfect cuddle bug. There is no wrong way to cuddle a dog, and the only thing girls love more than cuddling are gopros and Starbucks.
4. Us girls look damn good in every puppy selfie we post on our snapchat stories.
5. There is never a time they don’t want to eat something with you. You want to have your 7th meal of the day at 11:00pm? No problem, that dog will assist you in gorging in a three day old chicken pot pie they don’t even care.
6. That being said, they could care less about your skills in the kitchen and will eat whatever you make. Coming from someone who can’t make toast properly, my dog will eat that black piece of bread with that cute little smile that dogs have and will be coming back for more.
7. They could care less what you look or smell like. You can burp and fart and not shower for days (PSA: we all do it) and your dog will not even flinch. He/she thinks you are still the most beautiful thing he has ever seen. Women know this because when we are in our most raw state; no make up, morning breath, retainer self—your dog will still give you a big ol’ smooch.
8. Girls appreciate anything that is remotely cute. Dogs are always cute. Woof. Bow wow. My dog is the cutest.
9. They are more than down for long walks on the beach. Or a walk around the block while you jam out to some old school back street boys, same thing.
10. When you walk in your house after a long day, that dog will be at your feet happier than he has been all day to greet you and make you feel so loved, what more does a woman need?
So what I just noticed after finishing this list is your dog is the better version of a boyfriend, girl friend, best friend, mom, dad, brother, sister, religion (wait what? No) that you will ever have. So ladies, hug your best pal a little bit more today.And men, take notes.
