10 Reasons Why Coming Home For Break Is The Best

After a stressful semester at school, packing up and going home for the holidays is such a sweet reward. Although you miss your friends at school, all the comforts of your home and being surrounded by family is much needed. Here are the highlights.

1. The Shower

Ahhh..There’s nothing quite as relaxing as a shower. The warm steam calming your body as the water pours down on you making you squeaky clean. The shower in your home becomes a treat when you come home from break. The shower itself is much more spacious compared the ones at school, so you can actually move enough to clean yourself. The water pressure is much nicer too. I have even found myself looking for my shower shoes then I remember, HA! I'm home!

2. Your Bed

Good old bed. Like a close friend, I like to think mine will be in my bridal party one day. The reliable thing is always there to come home to after a tough semester. With nice support for your weak back and warmth from the comfortable comforter and blankets, the bed some how never leaves you disappointed. Once you're home you find yourself waking up at one in the afternoon because it seems like you’re sleeping on a cloud of happiness and you never want to wake up.

3. The Kitchen

It may sound silly, but there is something about opening the fridge that makes me happy to be home. You get options to satisfy all your cravings and time to experiment new recipes and concoctions. You don’t have to walk across campus to get food, instead just roll off the couch and walk in to the kitchen which I don’t think is any farther than a couple steps away. Homemade meals always seem to out beat the dining halls, no shocker there.

4. Friends

I love my friends from school, but sometimes it’s nice to catch up with your friends from home. They had your back from the beginning and some of them dealt with you even during your awkward middle school days, the least you can do is give the gratitude they deserve by hanging out with them. No, but seriously, friends from home are great and they help pass the time of the long break.

5. Family

They may get on your nerves, but you can’t deny it is nice to spend some quality time together with your family. A phone call or text doesn’t seem like enough when it comes to keeping in contact with your family, so finally getting to see their joyous faces definitely raises your spirits. You get to catch up with them on life and share accomplishments since last seeing each other. Also, in most cases it is thanks to them you get to go away to college in the first place, so going home to say thanks is the right thing to do.

6. Pets

Those little furry friends we miss more than we think. It is fun to run home and see those adorable creatures because we all fear at one point that they might not remember us because we were gone for so long, but they never seem to forget and they react just as excited as you were to see them. Then the whole break you get to cuddle up with them and you swear you’ll never leave them like that again.

7. Laundry

Laundry may actually be the most irritating thing about college. I now understand why people always joke about college kids always bringing their laundry home. Between dragging your heavy laundry down flights of stairs then having to fight over washers and dryers and I actually mean fight. When you’re done doing laundry you swear you won’t do it for another two weeks and it actually ends up being that long. At home however you get the luxury of only sharing the laundry room with the people in your house and you can do how many loads you want, whenever you want. For some people you don’t have to worry about paying for laundry either.

8. No school

Probably the BEST part of going home is no more responsibilities to school. No more essays due, tests to study for, chapters to read, just simply treating the break the way a break should be treated. You are so thankful that the semester is done and all that needs to be done is anxiously wait for the grades to be posted. It is easier to relax when you know you having nothing to do.

9. Cruising in the Car

Hear me out on this one, be able to jump in your car and drive around was one of the best parts about getting my license, however four years later it still isn't old. I love to pick up my friends, blast some music, and cruise the streets. Some people aren't lucky enough to have their cars on campus and sometimes you aren't too familiar with surrounding streets, but at home, you know all the streets and the shortcuts, and even where the cops stakeout. Being able to come home to driving freedom is one of the little things that are just so nice.

10. Familiarity

School does become somewhat of a second home to many and you slowly learn the surrounding area of school, knowing the best places to eat, cool places to shop, and just beautiful places to hang, but you know the places at home even better. We all have those favorite places from home that school just can’t compare. We have our favorite restaurants with the menu that you already memorized, our best friend's houses that are the best places to hang, and the stores where you know where everything is. Having everything familiar is reliving when you come home, you nothing will ever change, too much at least.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
