10 Reasons You Should Always Call Your Grandparents

Grandparents are such important people in our lives. We all need to realize how special they are and appreciate them as much as we can. As a college student, I have become so grateful for my whole family after being away from them for months at a time. Although it can get difficult at times with my hectic college schedule, I try my hardest to stay in touch with my loved ones, especially my grandparents. Whether it be a text message, a phone call, or even a voicemail, I put in effort to remind my family that I’m thinking of them, I miss them, and I can’t wait to see them when I get home from school.

Talking to my grandparents never fails to brighten my day. I love catching up with them and filling them in on how I’m doing with my classes and extracurricular activities. They always manage to make me feel better when I’m stressed or feeling down. They offer the greatest advice and always remind me how proud they are of me, something that is always great to hear.

If you still have your grandparents in your life, take time out of your day to give them a call. I’m sure that they will appreciate you reaching out to them, and they will love hearing your voice. The harsh reality is that we don’t know how long we are going to have them in our lives, so take a few minutes to make them aware of how much you adore them and how much they mean to you.

Here are ten reasons that you should always call your grandparents:

1. They have been there for you from the start.

Let’s be real, for many of us, we would not be the people that we are today without the help and guidance from our grandparents. They have taught us about the important things in life and they are always offering us significant lessons that instill our values and shape us into better people.

2. They have never and will never leave your side.

They will continue to love you endlessly despite your mistakes and they will never judge you. They support you no matter what and just want the best for you.

3. They LOVE catching up with you to hear how you’re doing.

Filling your grandparents in on what you’ve been up to is exciting for them. They want to know what you’re doing and how you’re doing.

4. They will give you the best advice.

If you ever run into an issue and need some help talk to your grandparents about it. They have experienced much more than we have. They are wise individuals.

5. They know exactly how to comfort you and make you feel better.

Having a bad day? Call your grandma and grandpa, you won’t regret it.

6. They will always push you to be the best version of yourself.

Your grandparents want you to do big things. They never want you to underestimate your potential, so they will always make effort to motivate you.

7. Remind them how much you love them and appreciate them.

I promise you that there is nothing that they love hearing more. I mean, who doesn’t love being reminded that they are admired?

8. Hearing your voice will make their day.

Especially when you’re away at school, they miss seeing you all the time so hearing your voice makes them happy.

9. They are your grandparents!

They are the reason that you have your beautiful family. They are the roots of the family tree. You are here because of them…never forget that.

10. One day you won’t be able to call them and hear their voice.

Life is short so keep in touch with them as much as possible! It’s so important.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
