10 Reasons Why Amy Poehler Needs to be the 2016 Indiana University Commencement Speaker

Just one day after the "Parks and Recreation" series finale, an online petition began circulating on social media, hoping to recreate the show's final scene and bring Poehler to Bloomington to speak at the May 2016 commencement ceremony.

David Cohen, a junior majoring in environmental management, said when watching the finale, he was disappointed to see the final scene was not filmed at IU. This inspired him to turn to Change.org to make his case to bring Poehler to Bloomington for real.

The petition received more than 800 signatures in about 17 hours. The goal is currently 5,000 signatures.

"I expected some responses from friends and family, but it really does seem like the Hoosier community feels similarly," Cohen said in an email.

That being said, The Odyssey staff came up with 10 reasons why Poehler would be an amazing commencement speaker:

1. She created Waffle Wednesdays.

And who doesn't love waffles? That automatically qualifies her to be an excellent graduation speaker.

2. She's not like a regular mom.

She's a cool mom.

3. She taught us the importance of "treat yo'self".

A message that would resonate well with college graduates.

4. She's the reason for Galentine's Day.

A day very holy to single college women (and even people who aren't single). So she'll really understand a lot of people in the audience.

5. She's hosted the Golden Globes multiple times.

So obviously she would kill it at a graduation speech.

6. We could get some Hillary Clinton impersonations.

Which would be an added bonus considering this is during a presidential election year.

7. Bringing Poehler here might mean we get a visit from Tina Fey as well.

The funniest women alive. Together. In Bloomington.

8. She understands Indiana and the Midwest.

We'll actually appreciate her jokes and references after going to school here for four years.

9. Poehler speaking at our commencement puts us on the same level as Harvard.

Maybe even higher.

10. Not only would her speech be incredibly inspiring, it would be hilarious.

A win-win.

So Amy, will you please come to our graduation? Please say yes!!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
