10 Reasons Alabamians Love Fall

Who doesn't love fall? It's probably the best season of the year. The weather is nice and cool but not too cold for any fun outdoor activities. It is defeinetly a favorite in the South, however, we get a bad wrap and many believe the weather goes from hot to cold in a day; people honestly believe we just have summer and winter and nothing in between. While southern states, especially Alabama, do have days that are scorching hot only to need to build a fire the next day, we do also have lovely days of falling leaves and brisk but comfortable weather. And here's why we love those days the most:

  1. The start of football season

Fall means the start of football season. From high school to college, everyone loves to go cheer on their favorite teams.

2. The Weather

Alabama is notorious for being hot. The weather soars during the summer and everyone panics when a few inches of snow fall. Fall is the one time of year when the mosquitoes die and we can go outside without sweating through even the lightest of materials.

3. The Leaves

My favorite thing about fall is the change in color of the leaves. From red to orange to yellow the trees all look like an amazing sunset for just a few weeks out of the year.

4. Halloween

Not specific to Alabama, Halloween is a vastly celebrated holiday. Costumes, candy, and parties all make it one of the best holidays of the year.

5. Pumpkin Patches

Everyone loves pumpkins right? Whether it's scary or just for fun, going to a field and picking out your favorite orange vegetable to decorate has to be one of the most fun parts of celebrating fall anywhere, but especially in Alabama.

6. Hot Drinks

Every girl loves her Pumpkin Spice Latte, but let's not forget hot chocolate or coffee that can keep your insides and hands warm on those chilly fall nights by the bonfire or out trick-or-treating.

7. Sweater Weather

Sweaters are definitely my favorite thing in my wardrobe. Pulling out your favorite sweater for the first time of the season and pairing it with your most comfortable leather boots has to be one of the best feelings in the world. Not to mention, sweaters look cute and comfy without even really trying.

8. Fried Turkey

If you don't just love Halloween, you have to love Thanksgiving! Spending time with your family and eating some of the best comfort food you can imagine is a great part of the fall season. Having a turkey is just iconic but in Alabama (especially at my house) we take it a step further and put that bird in a big ol' fryer!

9. Hunting

Even though this isn't quite my thing, I know plenty of people who love to go out early in the morning and hunt deer. While I couldn't ever stay still that long, it is for sure some people's favorite part of the fall season. And of course, don't forget that if you shoot one, it tastes great!

10. Camping

Lastly, who doesn't love to set up a tent at your favorite park and make a big bonfire and roast marshmallows? You could tell a scary story or two or reminisce and watch the lovely fall sky. Being outdoors and spending time with friends and family is what it is all about.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
