You've become so close, but it's that time when distance has become relevant and there's nothing you can do about it. Long-distance relationships are always considered the hardest, but have you ever considered the difficult realities of having a long-distance friendship? Here's a list of some moments where missing your best friend is all too real:
1. The Time Zone Difference.
You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone, especially when it comes to time. Being 3,000+ miles away is hard, but having your best friend live seven hours ahead of you is quite possibly one of the most difficult things when it comes to a friendship. You are no longer both in sync, and your everyday activities, which you try to continue, are so off. It has now come to waking up at ungodly hours just to text your friend to have a good day while she tells you to have a good night, and every emotional moment you may have can never be shared because it's either too early or too late. But no matter what, staying up until 4 a.m. on a weeknight is worth it, just to make sure she's okay.
2. Those Classic Five Hour Skype Conversations.

In comparison to the time you spent when you were both in the same city together, five hours of Skyping is nothing. It's just a brief taste of what you used to have and what you'll remember as the best moments of your friendship. It is absolutely normal for you to not hang up on your best friend when she needs to make dinner or when her roommates come in and you have a separate thirty-minute conversation with them before returning to two more hours with your BFF. The lack of close proximity can never be made up, but being able to talk to your best friend and catch up without worrying about time is perfect.
3. Text Messages Written as Novels.
"What is my life." The classic text message you receive before a series of five-paragraph essays are received. It is common for people to agree that text messages are not the best form of communication while discussing serious matters, but when it comes to your best friend (whom you know well enough to a point where you read the messages in her voice), it is quite normal to embrace the novel texts and respond in a similar manner. If it weren't for those long messages, you would find yourself having those five-hour Skype conversations every day, so appreciate the simplicity that is WhatsApp.
4. Mental Notes.
You find yourself making mental notes of things you see or experience so that you have a running list of what you need to inform your best friend about. Whether it is a funny thing you read on the internet or seeing someone trip on the Mall, you are constantly trying to remember those things that you know will make her smile.
5. Bathroom Breaks.
Let's just make this clear, no girl wants to go to the bathroom by herself. That is a classic rule for all women. But you can't go to the bathroom with just anyone; they need to be your confidant, your wingman, your person. So when your person happens to be 3,000+ miles away, you no longer can leave a party and go to the restroom and be okay with it. Going to the bathroom alone = every girl's worst nightmare.
6. The Long Days.
Ever have those days where you are done with everything and just want to return to your apartment with a bottle of wine and share it with your best friend? Those days sound so beautiful, but for now, you find yourself returning to more homework and an empty apartment. But there's always that slight glimmer of hope and dreams that one day, that beautiful moment will come.
7. Facebook Photos.
You see people post pictures with their best friends and you automatically wish the worst for that person. Jealousy can be so cruel.
8. Drinking Alone.

Drinking without your best friend is like drinking alone because it's the kind of drinking that never ends well.
9. That's Actually Not Funny.
There are so many moments when you'll see something that is completely hilarious, but you're the only one that finds it funny because your best friend cannot laugh at it with you. Other people need to find a better sense of humor.
10. That One Song.
When that one song you and your best friend would always jam out to comes on at a party there's nothing you can do but get emotional and find yourself tearing up even though it's a very upbeat and happy song. You find yourself refusing to dance because it would betray your friend and the all the times you spent together.
