Coach Taylor, from Friday Night Lights, is someone we all need to take time out of our lives to listen to. He says what he means, and he knows what he's talking about. Sometimes we all need the type of encouragement from him that he gave to all of his players and family members.
1."I said you need to strive to be better than everyone else. I didn't say you needed to be better than everyone else. But you gotta try. That's what character is: It's in the try."
Having good character is putting in the effort to make something of yourself, and trying to be a better you.
2. "You listen to people that love you and you listen to people that you trust. Most of all, you listen to yourself."
Some people would kill to see you fall. That's why you need to make time for the people who love you and want to see you succeed.
3. "I'm a firm believer in you can do anything you put your mind to, and yourself, you, I believe you can do anything you put your mind to."
There will always be somebody telling you that you "can't" or that you "shouldn't." If you want something - go get it.
4. "You give 110 percent all the time, not just when you feel like it."
If you're only putting in the work sometimes, you're not going to accomplish your goal. You need to work hard at what it is you want to accomplish, and you will get there.
5. "A man takes care of his wife."
Of course, women need to love and care for their husbands as well. But at the end of the day, every woman needs the comfort of her loved one that she knows will always care for her.
6. "You can't beat yourself up because you're taking chances on things. But don't start giving up on what you set forth to do in the beginning. 'Cause that's gonna get you nowhere. I can promise you that."
When trying something new, It's rare that anyone gets things right for the first time. Don't lose sight of your goal. You'll fall down, but it's all about getting back up again.
7. "Listen to your mother. You listen to her and you respect her."
No one knows better than your mother. To love, listen, and respect your mother is one of the most important things in life. Never take that for granted.
8. "Stick together. It all works out."
When in doubt, keep people by your side. Everyone needs a little help and a little boost from their friends and family, keep them close.
9. "My dad used to say, 'It always looks bad before it gets better.'"
Nothing is rainbows and butterflies straight from the start. Good things take time, don't give up when it gets hard.
10. "Can you do me a favor? Do the best you can."
You're not always going to be the best at everything you do. You may not succeed every time you do something. Be the best you, that you could be.
