I am a first year college student and honestly, it’s ridiculous that I’m already tired of these questions. Like, do I really have to go through this for another three years? Hopefully this is a quick way for all my family and friends who frequently ask these questions to get their answers and to stop asking me.
1. How are classes?
Okay. This is everyones go to question. It’s terrible because classes are terrible. Chances are, I haven’t done homework in two weeks, I’ve pulled three all-nighters and all I’ve I had to eat in the past couple days is a bag of Funyuns and a slice of day old pizza. College is stressful. Classes are stressful. So, please stop asking this, because they’re not going well.
2. How much longer until graduation?
Too long. Seriously. It might three years, it might be ten. I’m not exactly sure when it’s going to end, but I’m hoping it ends soon because I’m in some serious pain.
3. What are you going to do after graduation?
Oh my goodness, this question is the most painful because I have no idea. Honestly, the average college student has no idea what they’re doing in the next two hours, let alone for the rest of their lives. It’s a tough world, everything is so competitive even with a college degree, and it’s a stressful time.
4. Did you sleep well last night? You look tired.
Tired? Me? hahahaha. No. Never.
Yes, I do look tired because I am tired. My three all-nighters have now turned into four, and my digital writing essay isn’t even halfway done yet. College students have so much on their plate between their social life, their academic life and extracurriculars that they’re always tired. So, yes, we’re tired, and we’ve already have two cups of coffee today and now caffeine doesn’t effect us.
5. Are you really going to eat that for breakfast?
I love this question because chances are I will eat whatever is edible and easy to reach at the time. That’s usually a bag of chili Fritos and a Mountain Dew. Sometimes I don’t eat anything. So when I actually do get around to finding something to eat, I eat whatever I find. The other day I had a slice of cake for breakfast and waffles for dinner. It’s just how it worked out.
6. Are you really going to wear that?
Yes. It is comfortable and warm and right now that’s all I really care about. Or, alternatively a summer outfit is whatever is cool and comfortable right now. I know that tie-dye doesn’t really go with plaid but that’s what I’m wearing today. Sorry.
7. Have you studied for your test yet?
No. Chances are I won’t until about an hour before the exam. I am a master at procrastinating and then complaining about my grade afterwards. If I could major in that, I would.
8. How much did you pay for college textbooks?
Too much.
9. Will you ever stop watching Netflix?
No. That’s the short answer. The long answer is I finished Bob’s Burgers last week when I had to write a speech for public speaking, and now I’ve started re-watching Lost and I can’t stop. (Seriously, when did Sayid get so hot?) Netflix is my favorite pastime, it’s the only thing I truly look forward to during the day. Would you really want to take away the only thing that brings me happiness? No. You wouldn’t. (PS Aziz Ansari’s new show is amazing. I watched that when I had an English essay due. I get some of my best Netflix watching in when I have huge assignments due.)
10. How many times have you skipped that class?
A lot. Eight A.M.s are hard, okay? Especially when attendance isn’t required. So somehow I’ve maintained an 84 and only show up half the time. The greatest thing about college is that when attendance isn’t mandatory, nobody comes to class. If you don’t need to, you just don’t. One of my least favorite things about college though, are the professors that count attendance.
So there they are. The top ten questions I am tired of hearing. Maybe now that people have read this they will stop asking me these questions. I can only imagine that if I’m tired of hearing these, then just about every other college student is too. To all of my friends and family, I know that these seem like harmless questions, but I am tired of them. I hope that this article was helpful in that now you never have to ask again!
