Christmas time is coming almost too fast for some of us to grab hold and enjoy. When we grow up, we realize that some things are just better when we were children. This comes out of my mouth every Christmas since I finished high school! It's sad, as we get older we do not get as much time as we would like to enjoy those things we once cherished!
Christmas comes with many pressures, whether you are a child or an adult... I am here to compare the pressures, and show that man oh man, how it would be wonderful to be a kid again.
(These are also generalized thoughts, sorry Ma, I don't think you gave me a bad Christmas ever!)
1.
Child me: Jessica says she is getting the new Skip it, Bratz, an Easy Bake Oven and a shopping spree to the Limited Too!! I must get the best gifts ever to look awesome and Jessica can shove it.
Also child me: Gets socks and a Barbie..................
Adult me: Mom I desperately need socks... the washer eats them.
2.
Child me: I hope these people don't try to hug me... who was that? My cheeks wet...
Adult me: Why are they ignoring me? Did they forget me? Do they hate me?
Oh crap I missed Auntie Barbara's birthday, she definitely hates me...
3.
Child me: I'm gonna watch the Charlie Brown Christmas special tonight, and the Grinch tomorrow, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation the next night!!!
Adult me: Crap, I hope I DVR'd everything.... I can't wait to watch these movies when I finally find the time AFTER Christmas..
4.
Child me: I'm young, I can't have a job, so these people don't expect gifts.
Adult me: I have a job, I'm still broke, I hope they don't expect a gift, or I hope they are okay with this used book...
5.
Child me:*Plays with new toys day and night during winter break*
Adult me: Where did those new socks go?! Mom!?!?
6.
Child me: Stuffs my face with food all night.
Adult me: Eats two cookies... "Are you pregnant?!"
7.
Child me: "Jessica is SO COOL. She is my best friend! We hung out yesterday."
Adult me: "I don't remember being friends with a Jessica, Auntie Barbara, who are you talking about?"
8.
Child me: Gets the Christmas tree early in the month, doesn't share the ornaments with anyone, finishes the tree by myself.
Adult me: I have work today, tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday, maybe I'll grab a tree on the 23rd.
9.
Child me: *Takes ride around neighborhoods to see the pretty lights.*
Adult me: *Driving to work* Oh those lights look nice!
10.
Child me: In school, I have to watch a movie, color a picture of Santa, and hand make gifts for my parents.
Adult m e: In school, I have four finals, six presentations, two papers, and only two days off from work.
11.
Child me: My parents deserve a lot for Christmas. *Makes paper machete snowman*
Adult me: My parents deserve the world, I'll buy them so much stuff and more!
....after checking bank account, I guess they'll have to accept this $25 gift card to the mall....
Christmas is a time to cherish those close to you, whether you are young or older. Appreciate this time, enjoy the gifts no matter how big or how little.
Happy Holidays!
