It’s no surprise that I love to travel. After spending four months abroad seeing some of the oldest and coolest cities in the world, I decided to make a bucket list of 10 places I think everyone should visit before they die. They are full of breathtaking views, history, and even some nature and are worth every mile of travel.
Paris, France
As one of my all-time favorite cities, Paris is a must-visit. With famous sites like the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and the Louvre within walking distance, Paris is full of history and culture. Need a break after all that sightseeing? Pop into one of the cafes and enjoy a treat while watching the stylish Parisians walk by.
Rome, Italy
How can you not visit the city that started it all? Complete with some of the world’s greatest Italian food and some really cool ancient ruins, Rome truly has something for everyone. You have the ability to pop into another country by strolling across the street and touring the Vatican or be transported back in time at the Roman Forum.
Giza, Egypt
Home to some of the Seven Wonders of the World, Giza will not disappoint. Where else can you see an architectural marvel like the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx, and ride a camel? Sounds like I just crossed three things off my bucket list in one visit!
Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe
Victoria Falls, or “Smoke that Thunders,” is the largest waterfall in the world, located on the border of Zimbabwe and Zambia. Swimming in Devil’s Pool allows the especially adventurous tourists a true infinity-pool experience as well as an adrenaline rush.
The Great Barrier Reef, Australia
To see the real beauty of the Great Barrier Reef, you really need to jump into the water. It has always been one of my biggest bucket-list goals to scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef and take in the biggest reef ecosystem in the world. You can even swim with dolphins here!
Santorini Island, Greece
Santorini looks like something out of a fairytale. With its colorful rooftops surrounded by sapphire waters, you can’t help but sit down and stay a while. Enjoy the calm while strolling down the black sand beaches or visit Oia to take in one of the world-famous sunsets.
Machu Picchu, Peru
Another UNESCO Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Machu Picchu is the most familiar image of Inca civilization. Visitors can travel to the “lost city” like the Incas used to -- on foot -- or take trains. However, whichever way you get there, you will still be impressed at the ancient city built on a ridge 2,000 feet above the turbulent Urubamba River.
Plitvice Lakes, Croatia
Named to the list of UNESCO World Heritage sights and one of the largest and oldest national parks in Croatia, the Plitvice Lakes are truly a sight to see. Hiking through the park allows you to take in views of 16 different lakes all known for their breathtaking hues.
Tulip Fields in The Netherlands
Every March the fields just outside Amsterdam are transformed from little patches of sand into full-blown flower gardens. By the time the blooms get going, the patches of pink, red, purple, yellow and orange looks like something straight out of the "Wizard of Oz."
Pompeii, Italy
Be transported into the past by visiting this ancient city completely immortalized by the irruption of Mount Vesuvius. The everyday life of Roman citizens has been preserved, even the most mundane aspects. Graffiti still covers the walls and bread can even be found baking in some of the ovens of the excavated bakeries.
Hopefully, you're already getting your bags packed for your next adventure at one of these must-visit destinations. Maybe I'll see you there!
