By now, everyone who is studying abroad has left the country. As I reminisce on my days abroad, here are 10 pieces of advice for all of the abroad newbies!

1. Say yes to everything!

The only way to get any value out of your abroad experience is to say yes to every new experience! That being said...

2. Being uncomfortable is a good thing.

Being in a foreign country can be scary and you may not know what to expect, but feeling uncomfortable in a new situation, while isn't necessarily ideal, is the best way to get yourself out of the comfort zone!

3. Eat EVERYTHING.

I hated fish before going abroad, but I would be lying if I said I didn't try it abroad and enjoy it. Try new foods, especially foods that are specific to the nation you are in, because you never know what you might like! That also being said...

4. Calories don't count abroad.

Seriously. Eat the pizza, pasta, and gelato--you won't be able to eat these things when you are home. Simply enjoy.

5. Money is no object abroad.

Spend the money. 'Nough said.

6. If you can travel, do it.

Yes, you have to actually 'study' while abroad, but honestly, for once in your life, don't put your studies first. Exploring the world is in and of itself an education.

7. Don't forget to call mom.

Mom knows you're having a great time abroad, but making sure you make time at least once a week to call home is always the right thing to do. She misses you, and you probably wouldn't be abroad without her.

8. Pack light.

You can't bring a huge suitcase with you on every trip. Learning how to pack efficiently will be key to traveling light and having more fun without extra baggage holding you back.

9. Learn the native language.

You don't have to be fluent, but the citizens of the country you are studying abroad in will greatly appreciate any efforts you put forth!

10. Simply put: enjoy every moment.

Yes, you will be homesick. Yes, you will feel out of place at some point. But in the end, these next four months are going to be the most amazing experience--an experience you will never have again. So, live it up!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
