Novels have a way of turning people’s lives around. They have a profound way of entering the reader's life, as if they are a part of action. Novel’s change the reader’s perspectives, and give them new ones. Authors have a way of morphing your views and dreams.
If you are a book-worm, like myself, you’ll know these 10 things are undoubtedly accurate.
We are not nerds.
The stereotype is that because you enjoy reading you are a nerd. This is far from the case. I am an avid reader, I love reading, however, that does not make me or anyone else a nerd. It’s something we love to do. We go out with friends, and go to parties, and most of our appearances wouldn’t fall under the “nerd” category.
We are not antisocial.
There are times we would like to curl up under a blanket near a fire with a hot cup of tea and a novel on a cold winters day instead of going out with friends. This however does not thwart us from going out and enjoying ourselves on any given day.
Character’s come to life.
Characters have such an impact on us readers, we start to compare the ones around us to them. How many times have we said “Why can’t “so-and-so” be like *insert character's name from any given novel.* The detailed literature makes the characters so alive.
Emotions run high while reading.
The details and the character-to-reader connections are so much stronger in novels then they are in movies, so when something happens, yes we get overly emotional. A flood of emotions overwhelm you while you're reading it, and many times you just get so hooked you have to just keep on reading. Regardless of how it's making you feel, you just want to know what happens.
You can never have enough books.
There is no set number to “too many books.” Our parents get so mad when our paychecks go to buy more and more books because we already have so many. You can never have enough books, and when you don’t have the money to buy new ones, you start trading them and the library becomes your second home.
There are some books will you will never get tired of.
We love them so completely that we could read them over and over. Besides, as we age our perspectives are always change, so we can find something different to understand and love in each time reading it.
Animated versions will never be as good as the written text.
The animated editions will never compare to the picture authors depict in their writing. Directors do a great job re-creating the text; however, the detail in the text is what makes each and every scene come alive.
We escape the real world with a book in hand
People often put headphones in, blast music and escape the world. Similarly, we snuggle up with a blanket open a book and divulge in the plot. Our minds focus on what’s occurring in the novel and forget about the real world for while, and for that amount of time there isn’t a care in the world.
Climaxes can make or break a book
A climax that goes the complete opposite direction than expected can either hook the reader, or piss the reader off so much they want to stop reading it. We’ve all been there where all of a sudden everything takes an unexpected turn and then we lose all interest in the book. We’ve also been there where that unexpected turn hooks us even more and we cannot put the book down.
The end of a really good novel can seem unbearable
There are some novels we wish could be never ending. It feels as if a chapter of our life has ended. The finality of finishing a book can be so painful especially when ending differently than we expected or wanted. It feels as though a door in our life is permanently shutting.
