Tall girls want to be accepted but ya'll make it hard on us

Okay, so I am almost 5'11 and let me tell you, I was not the tallest girl in the room. (Shocking, right?). There were girls towering over six foot that would have to duck under doorways and cramp in their seats. I feel for those girls because basically, I am those girls. We are called linebackers, basketball players, giants, you name it. I have never seen a meme praising how "cute" we are or that we are winning. Although it is common to see models being of our stature, we don't look like them and they don't even look like themselves. Being constantly picked on in school about not finding dates was hard, like really hard. I had friends who had guys calling after them but not me, and it started with a guy telling me no guy would date me in high school because I was a giant. Well, that got me thinking on the obvious reasons why short girls might be cute, but why can't tall girls be appreciated too? and not have to be a model to do that. So here's to us, the linebackers, basketball players, and giants.

1. We can reach anything

I have grabbed more things off the top shelves of any grocery store and seen shorter women struggling, to which I always help them out. But I don't want to always be labeled by the Prince saving the damsel in distress.

2. Wearing heels can make us look longer

So for my military ball coming up, I am so wearing heels if need be. My boyfriends shorter than me, but that didn't stop me from trying them on and saying, "yeah, I can rock these".

3. Yeah, we can be thrown around too

Just because she's tall guys, doesn't mean she can't be picked up and carried around. Guys seem to think that they are going to look like a bad game in 2k by being the same height. Let me tell you, it's only in your mind.

4. And yes, we can date shorter people.

Oh, is it compromising your masculinity?

5. I can see everything at a concert

It is a great thing to see my favorite artist, even on the lawn seats. As you can see, I saw more on the right then my fellow short girls.

6. You are NEVER underestimated

I don't have to prove I have what it takes to be strong and confident, they already assume I am.

7. I still look young

Never met a tall high schooler? I am currently 21 and someone literally asked me today if I was on spring break, in high school.

8. Long legs have always been attractive

Never underestimate the power of long legs in the summer time. Then they will realize what an attractive trait tall people seem to have

9. "You are taller than your boyfriend??"

Yeah, I am. It is a perk because that means I am dating a guy who doesn't feel compelled to dive into that sea of shallowness. (Yeah, it doesn't seem like much but to some, it's SUCH a big deal.)

10. You will ALWAYS be the center of attention

Whether you like it or not girl, people will naturally gravitate and find their eyes gazing at you when you walk in a room. Tall just means more to love, more to discover, and more to look at. Next time you walk in a room, make sure you are wearing six inch heels and a 5'6 guy by your side.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
