1. Hall style dorms are normally co-ed whereas in a suite style your suite mates are all of the same gender.
2. You do not have to worry about getting along with your suite mates. You are not stuck in a confined space with people that you may not know well.
3. At some universities, hall style dorms run cheaper than suite style dorms and tend to be larger.
4. You are not responsible for cleaning you're own bathroom. Although they are community bathrooms, they are cleaned by a janitor every other day if not every day. It is one less thing you have to worry about in your busy college life style.
5. You have access to at least 20 closets of clothes instead of only 8. You will never have to buy new clothes again.
6. You don't have to worry as much about noise. In suite style the noise of your suite mates travels quickly.
7. Special communities: some campuses offer special dorms or floors for students with specific interest or majors. Additionally, there are often spaces dedicated to international students or those earning academic honors.
8. Your RA (Resident Advisor) will likely plan community building events such as outings that are fun and a great study break.
9. If you run out of something, whether it is printer paper, laundry detergent, or plastic forks, you can just stick your head out the door and someone on your hall is likely to have some that you can use.
and by far the best part of living in a hall style dorm...
10. The open-door policy: Because each room is bordering a long hallway, there are usually more people in these dorms, which can create more opportunity to get to know your whole floor and make new friends. You are more likely to meet people you would not normally interact with. This includes people who from a variety of places and/or are in different clubs or sororities.
