10 Moments We All Have As MTA Bus Commuters
Business Insider

If you take a bus to class every day, you know the MTA struggle all too well. In NYC, public transportation is a blessing when you need to get where you need to go but, even the best of us run into trouble sometimes. Here are ten moments we've all had while commuting to class:

1. Walking to the bus stop while calculating in your head if you have enough money left on your card to get to school. Then, rehearsing in your head as you get to the bus stop what you're gonna say to the bus driver if your card is empty.

2. Getting on the bus and seeing a section of it taken up by high school kids, and for some reason being terrified by them just become they come in packs.

3. When you notice someone staring at you for a long period of time and you can't tell if they're trying to be flirty or creepy.

Then you finally make eye contact with them and it turns out they're looking out the window behind you for their stop.

4. When there's that loud person on their phone telling the most dramatic story, and half of you wants them to hang up, but half of you wants to know how the story ends.

5. When you're on the bus and the back door won't open at your stop so you have to scream "Excuse me! Backdoor!" like a maniac until the bus driver hears you, all while the rest of the bus looks at you like you're crazy.

6. Those days where you just don't want to sit next to anyone so every person who gets on the bus gets the "please don't sit next to me" face as they walk by you until the bus fills up and someone absolutely has to sit next to you.

7. When it's rush hour, the bus is packed and someone has the audacity to sit on the outer seat and put their bag on the window seat.

8. Running out of money on your MetroCard, but hoping the bus driver lets you on anyway.

9. Seeing your bus at the bus stop and seeing the "Next Bus Please" or "Not In Service" bus coming your way.

10. When the app says the bus is fifteen minutes away but when you get to the bus stop ten minutes later the bus the bus is leaving.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
