10 Makeup Products To Try

High-end and low-end favorites taken from my vanity.

10 Makeup Products To Try

High-end products: These were all purchased either at Ulta and are fairly pricey ‘prestige’ brands.

1. The Lorac Pro Palettes

I’ve got both of these palettes and they’re wonderful. They are high-end and pretty expensive, but they eliminate the need for other eyeshadows. The palettes have both matte and shimmer eyeshadows. With a wide range of neutrals and colors, these premium-pigmented sets are my go-to eyeshadows!

2. Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade

People always tell me my eyebrows look good. That’s partially due to my natural shape, but I’m not afraid to admit that I get a little help from makeup. I apply it with a tiny little brush that originally came with gel eyeliner. Dipbrow is my bestie, and it’s very long lasting!

3. Laura Geller: The Real Deal Concealer

I have hereditary dark circles under my eyes, discoloration on one of my cheeks, and the occasional acne breakout. It’s more of a liquid concealer; it isn’t a stick, so I use a brush to apply it. This concealer is the best I have used so far, and a little goes a long way!

4. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara

I was already a fan of Benefit’s other mascaras, and this product reaffirmed my love for their collection. It’s great for length, and I do find that it helps my lashes hold a curl!

5. Urban Decay All-Nighter Makeup Setting Spray

This is more of a makeup helper than actual makeup. If you ever need your makeup to last long, this spray is your friend. I’ve used it for several summer weddings, school dances, etc. It makes your makeup stay in place all day!

“Drugstore” products: in other words, these are cheaper and can be found at Ulta but also at Walmart, Target, Walgreens, etc.

1. Revlon Colorstay Liquid Foundation

Here’s a product that won’t break the bank. I don’t buy high-end foundation because, face it, this is what you use the most of. They’ve got foundations for all skin types, so even the oilier faces like mine can use a liquid!

2. Maybelline New York Shine Free Powder

This is a loose powder that I use to set my makeup. It does come in multiple shades to match varying skin tones. I find that it’s great to use just a small bit so my liquid foundation stays on better. This is also good to use over concealer or alone on days where you aren’t wearing foundation!

3. Maybelline New York Line Stiletto Liquid Eyeliner

This liquid eyeliner has a felt tip, unlike some that have more of a brush. It’s very easy to apply and is frankly the only liquid eyeliner that I don’t struggle with. My favorite part is that it is great for creating the eye flick/cat eye look!

2. NYX Lipstick

I have NYX lipsticks in a few shades. My favorite shade, Doll, is a muted pinkish red that isn’t too overpowering. They are highly pigmented and long lasting!

  1. Neutrogena Makeup Remover Wipes

OK, so this last one isn’t technically makeup, but it’s still amazing. Neutrogena has a few types of makeup removing towelettes that are all great. These wipes are the only ones I’ve tried that can manage to take off a full face of makeup, including waterproof eye makeup, with just one wipe!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
