10 Life Lessons From Scrubs

Scrubs is a great show that finds a great mix between comedy and drama and is able to take the literal life and death situations their characters face every day and relate them to our own every day life. Having already watched almost all eight seasons of Scrubs (I know there are nine but I refuse to acknowledge that season nine even exists), I have noticed that it teaches a lot of good lessons about life. Even in some of the most bizarre scenarios, the characters always seem to learn something about themselves or just about life in general. Some of those lessons have even been a big help to me personally during stressful times, and I would like to share some of them that really stand out to me and will hopefully stand out to others.

10. Don't be afraid to take risks

Life is full of risks. Those risks also have their rewards. Never be afraid to take a chance, you never know what could happen and you never know what you could miss out on by playing it safe.

9. Don't care what others think, make yourself happy

You are the one in control of your own happiness. No one else can take that from you. The only one who allows that is you. Do whatever your heart desires and whatever you know is going to make you happy. At the end of the day, the only person who's opinions matter, is YOU.

8. Don't give up

Life is full of challenges and it can be scary sometimes but you need to have the courage to face it head on. Don't take the easy way out. Face that challenge head on and conquer it. Not everything is going to come easy but that makes it more worth it in the end when you finally get it.

7. Hang on to the ones you care about

Whether it is a family member, best friend, boyfriend or girlfriend, any relationship is precious and should be treated as such. No relationship is perfect, people fight, bicker and what not, but those small things should not get in the way of the special connection you have. Whatever it may be, even the smallest thing, just let it go and don't let it ruin the good thing you have going.

6. It's okay to still be a kid sometimes

Everyone always says, "When are you going to grow up?" But honestly what is the rush to just abandon that inner child we all have? Life gets hard and sometimes we need to escape back to our childhood to just keep going. Its okay to goof off every now and then and have a little fun. Life can get crazy and it is that little kid inside of us that keeps us from going crazy.

5. Don't let the hard times get the best of you

We all go to that place sometimes where it seems like life is just too much. It's too difficult to continue but you cannot let life get the best of you. Even if all of your time is wrapped in a bunch of things, you should still find time to escape it all. Even if it's just telling a little joke and laughing. Sometimes we are surrounded by a lot of negativity, but we cannot let it get to us and bring us down with it. You need to be able to ride through the storm and keep going.

4. Take time to appreciate the little things in life

Life is very precious and can end at any moment. It is so unpredictable and the scary truth is that tomorrow is not always guaranteed. You should spend a little time every day cherishing the little things in life. Cherish the typical cliches like smelling the roses and breathing in the air. But even other things like going to a siblings' soccer game or just a nice family dinner. Even if it is just sitting in the grass and thinking about what you haven't done yet.

3. Own up to your own burdens

We all have our setbacks and our limitations but we should not let them get to us. We cannot allow ourselves to be held back by our own limitations and for some physical disabilities. Do not allow yourself to wallow in your self pity. Keep pushing forward and don't let anything stop you. Instead of dumping your grievances on others, be able to stand tall and don't let anything stay in your way.

2. The company of others can get you through anything

No matter how bad things may seem or how alone you may feel, know that you are not alone. You have people around you who care about you and want what's best for you. They may be going through their own problems, but if they are still willing to give you a hand, you should do the same.

But in the end, the most important thing to accept is that no matter how alone you feel, how painful it may be, with the help of those around you... you'll get through this.

1. It's okay to be a dreamer

Life can be whatever you want it to be, you just have to make it that way. It will throw stuff at you from time to time, but don't be afraid to chase your dreams. Your life is not set in stone by anybody else but you. Your choices will define your future and you are the one who controls your future. While obviously not everything in your dreams is going to come true (sorry no giant chocolate fountain folks) it is a good way of keeping a positive outlook on life while also staying realistic. If you play your cards right, you never know, even your smallest dream could come true.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
