The classic TV show has undeniably given us many laughs over the years, while subtly imparting little bits of wisdom based on each character’s experiences. While Joey taught us that sharing food is never allowed, we also learned from Phoebe that there’s nothing sexier than being your true, quirky self. Here’s 10 things that we’ve learned while watching our favorite characters on-screen.
1. Naps are essential
Nothing feels better than coming back home at the end of a long day and taking a nap (optional: with your best bud)
2. Food is sacred
Joey taught us that food is everything- and definitely not meant for sharing with others.
3. The best way to run is like a little kid
Phoebe's way of running appears crazy and embarrassing, but at the end of the day she teaches us that we shouldn't care what others think about us.
4. It’s okay to be silly sometimes…or all the time
Being weird is good. Joey showed us that we should never take ourselves too seriously, especially when things don't go our way.
5. When you’re going through a rough time, hug it out
The show taught us that when things go wrong, you can always count on your friends for advice or just a much needed hug.
6. It’s okay to be sensitive
Let's face it- sometimes life sucks and you need a good cry. Through the ups and downs of the characters' lives, we saw that there's nothing wrong with being vulnerable or sensitive at times.
7. Confidence is key
One of Phoebe's greatest qualities: her unwavering confidence. Throughout all 10 seasons, Phoebe stayed strong even during her weakest moments. Her confidence and charm is something that we could all use a little bit of.
8. Never underestimate a girl’s strength
All of the female characters were badass in their own ways, but Monica particularly showed us that girls can be just as strong as boys and are not a force to be reckoned with.
9. Finding people who love you for your quirks is important
Phoebe's quirks made her so unique and lovable. The relationship between her and Mike made us believe that we can all find someone out there that accepts us for who we are and loves us because we are so wonderfully weird.
10. Your family members will always have your back
Ross and Monica created the perfect example of an amazing brother-sister relationship. Apart from being a weird dancing duo, they also managed to be such good friends and support each other just like family members are supposed to.
