Since I was young, I’ve been dancing to the beat of country music. Whether it be jamming out in the car, or music blasting in a hay field, country music surrounds me and it has taught me a few things. Next time you hear the radio playing, turn the volume up and I guarantee that you’ll find a few important life lessons in the words of country music:
1. “If You’re Going Through Hell Keep On Going”
In the words of Rodney Atkins, don’t give up. Life may seem like there’s a million things keeping you down but you’ll get through it.
2. “Love Like Crazy”
Seventeen isn’t too young to know what love is about despite what others may tell you. Don’t forget to, “Be a best friend, tell the truth and overuse I love you. Go to work, do your best, don’t outsmart your common sense. Never let your praying knees get lazy…” Love everyone in your life like crazy, it’s worth it.
3. “You Got To Get A Little Mud On The Tires”
It’s okay to have fun and let loose. In fact, it’s important. Life shouldn’t be full of work and hard times, but instead full of fun memories and crazy nights. Don’t be afraid of dancing in the moonlight and getting a little dirty once in a while. Just stay young and wild for as long as your life allows.
4. Keep Your Faith
At times when you need it most, country music constantly reminds us to have faith. Everything happens for a reason and God always leaves a little sign to remind us that he’s there during the ups and down. You just have to believe.
5. “We All Got A Hillbilly Bone Down Deep Inside”
Chances are that if you love country music, you’re able to relate to it somehow. “No matter where you’re from you just can’t hide” … your boots, yee haws, and hillbilly side. Even the kid who despises most country music can leave a little room for Jake Owen!
6. “Don’t Blink”
“Life goes faster thank you think” so don’t blink. Take it all in and live every moment to it’s fullest potential. Before you know it, you’ll be ten years older and won’t know how time went so fast. Take advantage of every opportunity and let every person you meet understand that you appreciate them.
7. “It’s 5 O’clock Somewhere”
Alan Jackson doesn’t lie. Somewhere in the world, the work day is over and its time to pour something tall and strong. Sometimes you just need a drink.
8. “Roll With It”
Don’t think about it too much. When life hands you lemons, make lemonade. Instead of getting caught up on something, make the most of what you’ve got in front of you.
9. “Keep On Dreamin’ Even If It Breaks Your Heart”
No dream is too big and no effort to small. Always chase your dreams and don’t let anyone get in your way of achieving your goals no matter the struggle that may come along with the journey.
10. Never Forget Your Roots
Some people wander off or enter a world that is much bigger or different than where they grew up. The most important is to never forget where you came from and what built you, because in the end that is going to be the most honest thing you can go return to.
