College truly is a winding road filled with studying for finals, writing 10-page papers, and drinking way too much coffee.

As a college freshman just about everything is an uphill battle, we are on our own and ultimately have to adjust to a completely new world. As newbies us freshman at times were left feeling extremely defeated and at times we didn't even think we would make it out alive. But with all the hardships of freshman year comes important life lessons learned. "Nothing good in life comes easy," says my mom. These words were constantly fueling me when times got tough. I had to remember that college is my "something good" and if I wanted to succeed it was ultimately going to have to be hard.

To all you incoming freshman out there just a fair warning college is not all red solo cups and things you see in "I'm Shmacked" videos. There is definitely hard work, pain and suffering involved.

So with that, not trying to scare you or anything, I decided to reflect on my freshman year with the wise words from 10 of my best friends. I sent them all a text to see what they feel were the most important lessons learned during their freshman year of college:

1. "I learned that a few great friends are better than many "OK" friends." -Hannah

2. "No one else's opinion matters but your own so do what you want."-Sam

3. "At the end of the day we are who we choose to be, and we'll only be happy if we choose for ourselves and no one else."-Mina

4. "I learned how to do things on my own since we went to school far from home. And most importantly never take your family for granted."- Nick

5. "Social skills and how to talk to people from all different backgrounds and beliefs." -Megan

6. "How much your perspective on life and people can change through meeting new people and going to new places." -Adri

7. "You'll end up finding the best of friends in the most unexpected places."-Naomi

8. "I learned how important it is to use all of my free time wisely."-Jackie

9. "I definitely needed my parents more than I thought, I had to learn how to take care of myself and be on my own for the first time."-Sydney

10. "I learned how to live with other people and how to survive a day running on 0 hours of sleep."-Chris

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
