So, it's no surprise that social media has been extremely tiring lately. So much good, bad and ugly being reported. With that being said, I wanted to lay aside the "deep, meaningful, contemplate-the-meaning-of-life" type article and make a list of ten, awesome and hilarious life lessons my co-worker/friend has taught me!

A little background, when I first met my co-worker: Jesse Oliver, I thought this guy was the weirdest, most funky guy and co-worker I had ever been around. It took me a while to get used to his presence. I have been entertained by these life lessons for the last year.

He randomly breaks out in dance, He has a weird obsession with the American flag, short shorts, and Crocs. Yet he is one the funniest, most reliable and genuine friends I have ever had.

With that being said:

I think we all need to take a break from the Facebook scrolling, the stress and hectic-ness (not sure that's a word...oops) and laugh a little! I don't know about everyone else but I needed this! So here we go: 10 life lessons my coworker and friend have taught me!

As told by Jesse Oliver

1. Don't be afraid to wear "short shorts"

"Being yourself, you have to have fun, love yourself before others love you. be the weird guy".

Who wears short shorts? Jesse Oliver that's who.

2. Comfort over fashion

"Fanny packs and crocs; cheapest, most reliable comfortable things you'll ever wear"

I secretly judge Jesse every time he shows up outside of work with this funky attire. His confidence rocks it, though.

3. Make an a** out of yourself

"This will brighten other people's day."

So, according to Jesse, he wants to make a fool of himself as long as it makes others happy. I can attest to that. He is always making us laugh at work

4. Confidence is key

"Don't let what others think or say affect your decisions"

Jesse really, really doesn't care what others think or say. In his own words, "I'm a grown a** man"

5. You have to have a cool nickname

"My nicknames are: chocolate bear daddy, papa bear, jesswald, your grandma's favorite grandson, badboyolliepop and @thesexyblackguy"

Consequently, my nickname at work is... Gayla because it rhymes with my name and well, I have all the feels.

6. YOU FOOL!!!

"Any chance you have to quote anime movies, television or dress like an anime character, seize the opportunity"

7. YOU ACTIVATED MY TRAP CARD!!!

"Refer to life rule #6"

...still don't get it...oops

8. Twerk like No One is Watching

"This one is for the ladies, men aren't the only ones with a nice butt. Don't be afraid to shake what your momma gave you!"

Jesse knows I can't twerk. Why does he advise I even try?

9. Trix are for Adults

"Age is just a number. Don't let the kid in you die"

We're all immature as AF around here, though?

10. Take a Chill Pill

"Life's short, enjoy it. Appreciate the little things and always look on the bright side"

Jesse, don't tell a girl to chill. Ever.

All jokes aside, I genuinely appreciate and admire the way Jesse lives life. What a guy.

Glad we're friends Jesswald

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
