Filipinos love to party. We don't just celebrate birthdays and graduations, but everything in between! A random family get together can turn into a party in an instant if you bring out some cards and beer. These parties are fun, entertaining, and have delicious food. There is an abundance of laughter, love, and you feel at place when you're there, even if it's not your own family's party. You're definitely guaranteed to hear some similar sayings any party you attend. Here are just a few you can expect.
1. "Do you remember me? Last time I saw you, you were a baby!"
Usually someone I'm pretty sure I've never met before says this, and I just smile and awkwardly stare at my mom to help me figure out who this mystery person is.
2. "You're so big now!"
I almost always say thanks, but am confused by whether they mean big as in wider or big as in taller.
3. "Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?"
I get asked this at every family party, and always say the same thing: "No."
4. "Anak, bless the food, please!"
I am no longer the youngest. Therefore, I just make my younger cousins lead the prayer. Plus, they say the cutest things when the bless the food!
5. "Go eat!"
You already know I'm about to go hard in the paint with the food because I barely eat Filipino food when I'm at school.
6. "There's more food, go eat some more!"
At this point, I've gone for seconds, possibly thirds, and need a nap and a trip to the bathroom very soon.
7. "Take some food home, there's a lot."
I always say yes because that means I have food for tomorrow, and who doesn't love free food?
8. "Let's take a picture!"
A family party isn't complete without a Facebook post full of pictures your auntie or uncle took throughout the party.
9. "Be good now, huh? And get good grades in school."
In the words of Michelle Tanner: "You got it, dude."
10. "Drive safely! See you soon!"
Goodbyes aren't complete without a sniff-kiss from one of your nana's, a bear hug from your uncle, and a super long hug from your favorite cousin.
