It’s something that’s pretty much unavoidable if you live in the city. It’s dark, muggy, and sometimes your biggest nightmare. It’s the way more than 1.7 billion travelers get around the city annually. Everyday people pack themselves into these little carts to be taken away like cattle to their next destination. Business men and women head to work, kids head to school, and tourists head to Times Square. Unless you’re a mega millionaire and can afford to take a car service around the city every day, you’re probably going to have to take…the subway.
The subway can be really annoying, there’s no doubt about it. For example, when people don’t use common sense and try to get on the train before everyone who needs to exit has gotten off. But, it can also be extremely helpful when you need to get somewhere quick and can’t afford to sit in traffic for half an hour. Whether you hop on the wrong train, or miss one because you’re filling up your card, it happens to the best of us. You’re definitely not the first or only person who has these issues. The only way to deal with these situations is to remain calm and have a sense of humor about it.
1. When people try to get on the cart before everyone's exited
"Please step aside and let the people on the train off first."
2. Accidentally giving someone a hand hug when you go to grab the subway pole.
You usually spend the rest of your time silently hoping and praying it doesn’t happen again.
3.When you’re trying not to make eye contact with the performers, even though they may be really entertaining.
I'm just going to pretend I'm texting someone and film you for my Snapchat story.
4. The struggle of not knowing when it’s appropriate to give up your seat to someone.
A three legged dog with only one eye just came on, Should I stand up?
5.Being thrown across the subway cart when it stops
You know it always snaps back, but every single time you end up doing 10 summer salts down the cart.
6.When you’re filling up your card and the subway comes
The heartbreak of not being quick enough to catch it and then having to wait another 3-20 minutes is real.
7.Sitting down next to someone who is playing their music so loud that everyone on the train can hear it, eating a full five course Christmas dinner during rush hour, or someone who missed a few showers.
8.The fear of accidentally tripping and falling onto the subway tracks.
It’s a very small possibility but it’s always a thought in the back of your head, don’t lie.
9.When the couple next to you decides the subway cart is the perfect place to catch up on all that making out they’ve missed.
It makes you feel like you can't get off the train fast enough.
10.“Planned” subway changes. Local vs. express. Construction. Weeknight/Weekend changes.
Enough said.
