in·tro·vert
noun
a shy, reticent person.
If you're an introvert, it means you're probably stereotyped as rude, antisocial, or boring. Believe me, there are many more stereotypes that come with the territory, but I'm here to dispel these totally far off myths. Yes, introverts enjoy their time alone and it can take a bit of time to warm up to others, but we genuinely enjoy being around others and we are completely capable of being the life of the party. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but to group every introvert together is just sad. While we possess many of the same traits, we also have very different personality traits.
1. Going out alone.
Contrary to popular belief, it is possible to go out alone and have an enjoyable time. If you judge me for going out alone, I’m judging you for being so dependent on others.
2. People watching.
The social scene is the most fun when you don't have to interact with others, or when there's an animal present.
3. Having extroverted friends.
Having extroverted friends means there's a perfect balance. You can simply exist while also being the perfect match for your extremely social friend.
4. Constant naps.
Social interaction actually drains me. I have to take naps in between going to class or hanging out with my extroverted friends (luckily they understand and love naps just as much as I do).
5. When plans are canceled.
I pretend to be upset but inside I'm happy dancing. While I love being around others, I also love being alone to read a good book or binge Netflix. In fact, attached above this text is live footage of me when plans fall through.
6. Screening calls.
Thank goodness texting exists. Human interaction is cool but I will evade any kind of interaction that I can.
7. Avoiding small talk.
I love meaningful conversation but I hate small talk. Talking just for the sake of it is a hard pass from me.
8. Eating Out Alone
Whenever I’m out and someone calls/texts me to ask what I’m doing, i’ll say “I’m out to eat”. They’ll say “with who?” and I’ll respond “no one”. That’s when all hell breaks loose. I don’t know why eating out is such a taboo. Eating is one of my life’s largest pleasures and I find it most fun when I’m alone.
9. Being Your Own Bestie
Being comfortable with yourself is one of the most important things considering you won’t always have others around.
10. Ghosting
I don't know why but just disappearing for a short while just feels really great. After going ghost, I feel refreshed and ready to give my friends the unconditional love and support they deserve.
Regardless of where you fall on the introversion spectrum, it's impossible to deny that these are things you can't relate to.
