10 Great Pinterest Ideas For Your Dorm Room
Pinterest

One of the things that I am most excited about college is decorating my dorm room. Over the past few months I have spent more than enough time on Pinterest pinning ideas for my dorm room. Below are some of my favorite ideas that I have come across.

1. Over the bed Bookshelf

The website Dorm decor sells a ton of super cute dorm stuff. On Pinterest I found their dorm bed cubby. It is basically a bookshelf that goes over your bed. They also make one for your desk. They are on the more expensive side, so I am having my dad build the cubbies for me and my roommate. This website also has cool ideas about bed shelves.

2. Bathroom Storage Shelf

Another neat idea is this shelf that goes over the toilet in the bathroom. (I guess you could say I like shelves that go over things.) You can purchase these at walmart for around 40 dollars. I originally got this idea off of pinterest.

3. DIY Headboard

I have been obsessed with head boards for a while now, but many of you may know how incredibly expensive they can be. Since dorm rooms usually have twin sized beds, making a twin size headboard would be pretty simple. Pinterest has a ton of different ways to make your own headboard. I liked this idea the best, you can use cardboard, so its cheap and light to carry. The full instructions on how to make it are included in the link.

4. Vanity

I love the idea of having your own your own vanity. This is perfect if you prefer not to get ready in the hall bathrooms, or even if you have a suite style room that you know will be crowded. While I would love to do this in my room, I don't think I will end up having enough space. I also like how the refrigerator and TV are set up in between the two vanities. I think it is a great use of space and it is attractive looking as well.

5. Cube cubby organizer for the bathroom

If you're lucky enough to have a suite style room, then this is a super cute way to store your bathroom supplies! Its perfect for holding towels and other bathroom supplies. I also like the idea of having your own bin monogrammed. These cube towers can be purchases at Target, Walmart, Bed Bath and Beyond, and many other stores. They have a price range between 30 to 100 dollars depending on the size and store you buy it from. I don't think i'll end up having enough room for one of these in our bathroom, but I have purchased one from Walmart that I am going to use underneath my bed.

6. Decorating your storage bins

Many students invest in those cheap plastic storage towers with the pull out drawers. While now, they are available in multiple colors, in my opinion they look kind of tacky. But thanks to Pinterest, many pinners have come up with different ideas on how to decorate the towers to look more attractive. One idea is to insert scrapbooking paper into the fronts of the drawers so you can't see what is inside of them. Another cute idea is to spray paint the edges of the towers.

7. Bed skirt ideas

I have decided that I want to raise my bed off of the ground some so that I am able to fit my dresser underneath it. I don't want to be able to see under the bed, so of course I searched Pinterest for various ways to make your own bedskirt, and ways to attach the skirt to your bed. The first idea includes tying it to the frame of the bed. Of course Dorm Decor offers this product on their website, but I think it would be fairly easy to make yourself. The second idea, which I think I will end up doing, includes attaching a thin suspension rod in between the posts of the bed, so that you have the ability to pull the skirt to the side to get to whatever you are storing underneath.

8. Ideas for the layout of your dorm room

My roommate and I decided on not bunking or lofting our beds, but there are a bunch of super cute ideas for those of you that are interested in raising your beds. I really like the idea of having a futon couch underneath one of the beds, and the tv set on the opposite side underneath the other bunked bed. A cute sitting area is also a neat idea if you have the space for it.

9. Wall Decor ideas

Dorm rooms often have cinderblock walls or plain white walls. In order to make your dorm not so dreary, it's a good idea to decorate your walls. Ive seen some rooms on Pinterest that have wall stickers and others have even hung curtains around the room to cover the walls. Depending on what your walls are made out of, and what your school allows you to use, there are a ton of options for decorating your walls.

10. Curtains in your dorm room

I am someone who cannot sleep if it is not dark in my room. Our dorm rooms come with a set of blinds. There are no hooks for curtains and you aren't allowed to screw anything into the walls. So I figured out on Pinterest that you can use command hooks to hold up curtain rod.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
