Living in an apartment or dorm can be a little challenging for those who love plants. But it doesn't have to be! There are so many amazing plants that thrive indoors and are perfect for these spaces. Here's a list of a few plants that are great to keep indoors.

1. Aloe

You had me at aloe! (see what I did there)

This is one of my favorites because not only does it look really cool, but it has great medicinal uses as well! It helps treat any kind of burns and you can use it to moisturize your face! Aloe thrives in indirect light and only needs a good soak every week or two.

2. Kalanchoe

This cute little succulent blooms beautiful red flowers that would look great in any indoor space! And if you're busy, or just lazy (like me), then this is the plant for you! It requires very little water, does just fine in dry climates, and is adaptable to temperature swings...So its pretty much perfect if you live in Boone!

3.Begonia

This plant is beautiful!! It would look great anywhere and requires occasional watering. Another great thing about Begonia is that it comes in many different patterns and colors!

4. Peace Lily

This plant requires a little more watering, but it still very easy to take care of. A great thing about this plant is that it purifies the air and eliminates common household toxins such as benzene and trichloroethylene.

5. African Violets

If you've been to literally any outdoor/gardening store you've probably seen these flowers since they are one of the most popular house plants in the world! It blooms several times per year and only requires moist soil and bright, but indirect, lighting.

6. Ivy

This plant is super cool because it grows really long and its perfect to hang and let its vines drape down. This plant actually prefers somewhat dry soil, so you wouldn't have to water it too much!

7. Jade Plant

This succulent is absolutely adorable and its round little leaves would look great on your desk or coffee table! Since they are succulents they retain water easily and prefer to be pretty dry.

8. Crown of Thorns

This is another cute succulent that is perfect for your apartment or dorm! It requires very little care and has beautiful, year round flowers! The downside of this succulent is, like the name says, its thorns.

9. ZZ plant

The ZZ plant, zamioculcas zamiifolia, is a native of East Africa and can thrive literally anywhere! It can survive drought, low humidity, and low light. So if you're looking for a plant that you literally never have to take care of, this is the one for you!

10. Bromeliad

Fun fact about this plant is that it actually belongs to the pineapple family! So if you're looking to add a tropical twist to your home this is the perfect plant! This plant lasts a long time and thrives best in 70ish degree weather so its perfect to keep indoors.

That concludes my short list of amazing plants to make your apartment or dorm a little greener! These plants are very low maintenance and would be a great addition to your home. I hope this inspires you to get a cute little plant of your own or add another to your collection! Happy (indoor) gardening!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
