Jumping on the gluten-free bandwagon has turned into quite a trend these days. Not only is it a good idea, but it is much healthier for you too; however, it can be super expensive and not the easiest thing to deal with, especially if you are gluten intolerant like me. About a year ago, I realized I had an issue eating just about everything. It wasn't until a few months ago that I was finally able to pinpoint the majority of my problem to gluten. It has been a difficult ride to find my trigger foods and the ingredients that give me discomfort and pain, but now that I am starting to get it under control I am feeling much better. So if you're like me, or just want to try what it's like to be gluten free, here is a list of my favorite gluten free snacks and treats to help you make it through your day. Enjoy!
1. Snyder's of Hanover Gluten Free Pretzels
Honestly, these are better than regular pretzels. They come in four different flavors, all with a satisfying crunch. The regular mini pretzels and sticks are even better when dipped in Nutella!
2. Van's Gluten Free Sandwich Bars
The peanut butter and jelly flavor are my favorite. But you cannot go wrong with any of the other Van’s products either!
3. Hummus & veggies
Hummus has always been a staple in my family, as we’re part Syrian. Not only is it a good source of protein, but it is also a super easy snack to prepare or purchase to take with you to school or work. I prefer homemade hummus, but the Sabra brand is good too.
4. Popcorn
I can never say no to popcorn, even if I am not hungry. It is my number one go-to favorite snack food of all time.
5. Yogurt parfait
I love having vanilla yogurt with gluten free granola and fresh fruits. It’s a refreshing snack to have after a workout or even just a busy day.
6. Udi's brand products
Udi’s brand really knows how to make you forget that what you’re eating is gluten free. I have had some other gluten free bread products that just weren’t good, but with Udi’s it is always a party in your mouth with a happy tummy in the end. Check out their site for more info on their products.7. Homemade lunchables
Roll up some gluten free lunch-meat with your favorite cheese and enjoy an old fashioned lunchable. It is easy to make and a quick snack to have when you’re on the go and don’t have enough time to stop for lunch.
8. Rice cakes
You can never go wrong with a rice cake topped with natural peanut butter and fresh fruits. My personal favorite rice cake topping is peanut butter and bananas, yum!
9. Fruit
So if I’m not feeling popcorn as a snack, or it’s not as easily accessible, fruit is my other go-to. I love the sweetness fresh fruits that strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, pears and apples all have. Some days I want to eat an entire pack of strawberries myself.10. Tortilla chips with guacamole and/or salsa
Most tortilla chips are made with corn or rice flour, thank goodness, because they are one of my favorite snack foods that I am not sure if I could give up. I prefer to make my own guacamole with fresh avocado, tomato, onion and lime, but if I’m in a crunch for time salsa will work just fine too.
