Coming back to school and leaving your parents home-cooked meals is probably one of the worst things about college. You can’t make your own food and the food you have in your micro-fridge is limited, so you will be eating the majority of your meals at the dining hall. Eating in college can be one the biggest battles for people. You want to eat food you like, but you don’t want to gain 20 pounds doing so. Here’s a few tricks my friends and I have learned along the way at college that makes eating at the dining hall a little easier.
1. Toast is always the answer.
A piece of toast with peanut butter always seems to satisfy me. So underrated, but so delicious.
2. Peanut butter ice cream.
Take a tablespoon of peanut butter and mix it into soft serve ice cream. It will change your life.
3. Basically, put peanut butter on everything.
I promise it helps.
4. Never buy apples or bananas.
The dining hall always has apples and bananas available to take back to your dorm. Great snack when you’re on the go.
5. Need a pick me up? Get five chocolate chip cookies from Caesar Rodney.
When you have three exams in one day, it's hard not to stress out, so treat yourself a little. They are hands-down the best cookies in any of the dining halls on campus. Beware because they are very addicting.
6. Need an even bigger pick me up? Make an ice cream sandwich using U Dairy ice cream and two cookies.
You'll thank me later.
7. Forgot to get milk from the pod for your coffee?
Just get a to-go cup and get some milk to bring back to your dorm.
8. We all know Russell’s coffee isn't the best, so to make it a little bearable, put half coffee and half hot chocolate.
It’s basically a mocha from Starbucks.
9. When you’re in a rush and you know you wont make it to the dining hall for dinner, take a bagel for later.
Just stuff it in your sweatshirt, a bagel baby is perfectly okay.
10. Always use a swipe for deli or omelets.
Whenever I see these two things on the menu, there is no doubt in my mind that I will be going to the dining hall.
Just because the food isn’t the best, UD is the best school out there. I wouldn’t trade where I go to school for anything in the world. So I can take a few mediocre meals here and there. Yes, I miss my parent's cooking a lot, but college is still my home away from home.
