I'm a daddy's girl and I'm not afraid to admit it. Here are 10 Confessions from a daddy's girl.
1. I fall right in the middle of the tom-boy/girly-girl spectrum.
I'm an only child, so I had to fill in and be the son my dad never got to have. He took me to all the car shows, fishing, hiking, taught me how to throw a baseball (even though I really sucked), and all the stereotypical "Father-Son" stuff. I was still a little girl though, and after a day of playing in the mud you could find me sleeping in my all pink bedroom in a princess dress. I'm still that way to this day. One minute I'll be screaming at the TV because the Steelers just fumbled (yes, I understand what's going on), and the next I'll switch over to HGTV and roll my eyes because Barbara picked the ugliest back splash I have ever seen.
2. Almost all of my best friends are male.
I grew up so close to my dad that I tend to gravitate towards the company of guys. I just click better with dudes.
3. I've seen too many Westerns and Kung-Fu movies.
They're my dads favorites and he forces me to watch them. He insists they're cinematic excellence. I have never agreed, sorry John Wayne.
4. I love nerdy things.
Speaking of movies my, dad also made me watch all the wonderful "nerdy" cult classic films. Every comic book movie, Star Wars, Star Trek, Harry Potter... I think you get the idea. We've seen every single Lord of the Rings movie together in theaters. Cute, I know.
5. I'm a spoiled brat, and I know it.
When I wanted something I always asked my dad first because it was incredibly rare that he would say no. Most of the time I would get the "I don't care, but ask your mother too!" and I could go to my mom with the "Daddy already said yes soooooo..."
6. If my prospective husband doesn't ask for my dads blessing before he proposes, I'll probably say no.
I know I know, this tradition is super backwards and is from a time when women were basically sold to their husbands but I want my man to have the courage and respect to talk to my dad about making this huge decision. Again, I'm the only child and I'll be changing my last name, so it's a big deal!
7. I get "dad-feels."
Any commercial, book, movie, or whatever that deals with a dad hits me right in the feels. The one where the little boy is trying to send paper airplanes to his dad who's deployed, and the neighbor mails them for him and then the dad writes back and the neighbor throws the letters back to the little boy... OOOOO that kills me. I cry every time. And the "Choosy moms AND DADS choose Jiff" commercials! Ah!
8. I love a good burger, and a cold beer.
While I would NEVER turn down a glass of fine wine and a lobster, you can't go wrong with a burger off the grill and a Miller Lite. My dad has taught me to appreciate the finer things, but to never lose your love for the simple things.
9. My phone calls with my dad last forever.
Being at college is hard sometimes because I can't just walk into the living room and ask my dad if he wants to watch Top Gear with me. Our phone calls usually consist of talks about movies we've recently seen (are you seeing a common trend in our relationship?), cool stuff he's seen at work, cars he's looked at on eBay, and when I'm coming home next.
10. Daddy's girls get a bad rep.
When you see daddy's girls in entertainment they're usually always the mean girls, the popular stuck-up rich ones that use daddy's money to go shopping everyday and take trips to Paris. That's definitely not who I am. I love my dad, and while yes, I mentioned in number 5 that I do get everything I could ever need, I'm a daddy's girl because I respect who he is and appreciate everything he's done for me. He gave me an unforgettable childhood, but he also taught me right from wrong. I would be nowhere without him, and I'll be his girl until the day I die.
