As the grueling summer heat keeps everyone indoors it is easy to get bored -- fast.
Even the go-to tried and true Netflix fails to entertain us after awhile. When boredom threatens to overwhelm you, a good book is always an option. This summer, try checking out these awesome books (both old and new) to keep your mind off the heat -- and well to enjoy a good story, of course. If you love to read as much as I do, you won't mind spending the afternoon immersed in a good read.
Here are some of the best summer reads around -- enjoy:
1. To Kill A Mockingbird
This one is a Language Arts course classic, but just because you had to read it in school doesn't necessarily mean that it's boring. This is a great book about growing up and learning to treat people fairly.
2. Catcher In The Rye
This one is interesting; if you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend it just for the sheer interest of it. There is not a lot of action but it will definitely make you think deeply about your surrounding world.
3. Harry Potter
This series is by far my favorite, even people who don't like reading have loved reading the Harry Potter series. Additionally, when you're done reading them you can watch the movies! These books are packed with so much action and intrigue -- they are fantastic!
4. A Wrinkle In Time
This book was one of my childhood favorites -- but it's not just for kids! It is a fantastic Sci-Fi novel about a little girl and her brother traveling through space. If you really like it, there are more in the series, but I'll always think the original is the best one.
5. Jane Eyre
Another classic, this book is actually very interesting and one of my favorites. Plus, there are many movie adaptations to chose from.
6. 1984
Okay, so this one is mildly depressing but it is still an interesting and entertaining book to keep you occupied this summer. This is your classic dystopian novel if you're into that kind of thing.
7. The Giver
This is another great book if you're into dystopian novels -- if you really like it, it is actually a series, but I am once again only a fan of the original. There is a movie for this one too, but I think the book does the storyline better justice.
8. The Hobbit

9. Paper Towns
This book is a little newer than the other books on this list, but I think it's my favorite John Green novel.
10. The Great Gatsby

These are the summer reads that have made my summers entertaining, interesting, and occupied my lazy days. I hope you enjoy!
