The 10 Best Things From Senior Year Of High School

As incoming freshmen, we know already that there are lots of things that are going to change this year. Moving away from home, making completely new friends, and continuing education at a higher level are all a part of the college experience. With that being said, the memories from high school will live on with us forever. Here are a few of our favorite things from senior year:

1. No Homework

Yes, for some classes we got homework. Maybe even homework in more than one class. But at the end of the day, most teachers knew that with senioritis, any work outside of school just wouldn't get done.

2. Using "Senioritis" as an excuse for EVERYTHING

Did someone say senioritis? This was the excuse for everything senior year. Forgot to do your homework? Senioritis. Didn't bring any of your books to class? Senioritis. Miss the first 3 periods of school? Senioritis.

3. Dressing like a Bum

This one is pretty self explanatory. Some may have tried to dress nice at the beginning of the year, but by the second week of school everyone shared the same zombie-like appearance.

4. Embarrassing Moments

We've all had our fair share of embarrassing moments that make you kind of want to peace out of school for a couple of weeks. Now that high school is over, we can look back and laugh at them, because most of them are more funny than embarrassing. Most of them.

5. Friday Night Football Games

Yes, most colleges have a football team. And yes, for those in the Big Ten or SEC, the games will be bigger, better, and more competitive. However, nothing was more rewarding and enjoyable than watching your own friends take the field. Whether you watched from the sidelines or stands, everyone felt a personal sense of honor and pride for their team.

6. Being with your Friends

Don't kid yourself, being with your friends was the best part of high school. It might be where you met them, or you may have known them from before, but either way, they are the ones who are always there for you through thick and thin. Even though its super exciting to make new friends, college just won't be the same without them by your side.

7. Applying for Colleges

Yeah, yeah, yeah, we all remember how stressful it was when we were applying to colleges, but no one can deny the excitement we all felt when we finally pushed "submit" for an application. Not knowing what the future would hold was terrifying yet oh so endearing.

8. Getting into College

Even more exciting was the feeling of actually getting into college. See mom? Clown school is no longer an option!

9. Prom

While not all of us had a fairy godmother, we all got the same enjoyment out of planning for the most special day of senior year. From searching for a date to finding the perfect dress, nothing took more time or effort. Most of us probably spent more time preparing for prom than we did on our grades senior year. Oops.

10. Counting Down the Days until Graduation

At first, it seems like an eternity away. Then, its 6 months away. 2 weeks away. And finally, its the day of graduation. Many people including myself couldn't wait to graduate, but once it was over, we wanted to turn back time to the beginning of senior year. Nobody was expecting it to taste so bittersweet.

Advice to all incoming seniors; don't take a single second for granted. What you think will last a lifetime ends faster than you can explain why. Above all, senior year is the best year of high school, so make it a good one.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
