10 Reasons Country Jam Is Simply The Best
Country Jam

Summer is right around the corner, and if you’re anything like me then you know what this means: the hottest country music festival in Colorado is up next on stage. It’s that time of year to dust off your cowgirl boots and mentally prepare yourself for the extreme conditions of Country Jam.

I repeat: prepare yourselves. Country Jam weekend will be here sooner than you know. It would probably be a good idea to start hitting up the gym, buying new dresses, downing water, or whatever you might do to be ready for this beloved weekend.

Even though some of the best parts of Country Jam are always the memories created with your pals, there is so much more that makes Country Jam a summertime tradition to attend. Here is a list of reasons why to attend this year.

1. Talented musicians

For more than a decade, famous and extremely talented country musicians serenaded the audience. I am about to say some fighting words, but this year's Country Jam is not the best lineup ever. Maybe I am a little biased, as last year was beyond amazing.

Shout out to Tim McGraw, who played and sang beautifully last year!

2. Cowgirl boots and sundresses

The style and amount of effort I put into the weekend for this event is very serious, but at the same time it is so great knowing that the festival gets to be laidback country style. This means I can rock a pair of cowgirl boots with a dress, a simple tank and flannel, or whatever seems cute and comfortable for that day.

3. All of the beautiful people

Country Jam is packed with audience members and those people never fail to amaze me with their captivating smiles, personalities and overall total babe-ness.

4. The dance parties out in general and the campgrounds

People do not take the after party and dance sessions as a joke. Every year people flood back into the campgrounds to watch people make fools of themselves. The best part about campgrounds are the endless dance parties, which I am extremely stoked about for this year's Country Jam experience.

5. The pool

OK, so if you have been before, then you get it. Country Jam is extremely hot and it never seems like you can cool off. Everyone is getting tan or burnt, but meanwhile dripping in sweat and trying to keep your electrolytes balanced. If this happens--which it will--the pool at the ranch is a nice addition to enjoy the concert without ruining your new favorite dress or top with sweat stains.

6. Day drinking

People are drinking and looking ridiculous in the most fabulous way. In the past years of Country Jam weekend, I had not been 21, but this year is totally different. I plan to take full advantage of the perfect reason to enjoy a cold beer with my pals and watch people make fools of themselves all weekend.

7. Tans (or, in my case, burnt princess skin)

It's time to forget the SPF and hope for the best tan, yet you might find yourself coping in your camper holding onto aloe vera if you're not as lucky. OK, that might not be you, but Country Jam is a prime time to take in some vitamin D and embrace weird tan lines or beautiful sun-kissed tans. Cowgirl boot tan lines are cool, right?

8. Meeting New Friends

WOW! There are endless amount of friendship stories written how people were introduced at Country Jam and still are the best of pals. It is SO true! Be ready to find those old friends or socialize with the people you always sit by. People at Country Jam are always down for some good ole' fashion fun.

9. The Redneck Slingshot

It's a thrilling ride and not for the faint of heart, but hey if you run out of something to do and got a little extra cash, then why not go for a ride? The view from up top is quite amazing. You probably will laugh, cry, or maybe even pee your pants. #worthit

10. Creating New Memories

Memories always make some of the best stories and you might just make some with all of your best friends at Country Jam: I know I sure did.

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
