Netflix is taking over, and this summer has a lot of potential for bing watching good shows on your off days. So, I’ve put together a list of my favorite shows exclusive to Netflix, so we all can binge out hearts out!
Quick Disclaimer: This list is based on my own personal opinion, nothing more. Also, this list is in no particular order. All of the shows are amazing in their own way.
1. "Orange is the New Black"
Let’s start with the obvious. If you haven’t seen, or at least heard of, "Orange is the New Black," you must be living under some kind of rock. The show follows the events of an all women prison, including the back-stories of many inmates, making this show interesting and different from anything you’d see on regular TV. This is, hands down, one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. It’s funny, political, emotional – basically, it’s an amazing balance of everything you could want in a show. (Plus the fourth season was just released, so go watch it if you haven’t.)
2. "All Hail King Julian"
A few months ago, I was visiting home and stumbled upon this "Madagascar" spin-off with my brother. We thought it would be something stupid to kill time, but hours later, we had unintentionally binged the entire thing. If you liked "Madagascar," this show is for you. It’s a lot funnier and well done than I expected (with a little bit of political humor thrown in). The third season was just released, and I am way too excited to see it. So please, if you need a laugh and cute animated lemurs, watch this show.
3. "Grace and Frankie"
Another show I discovered with my family! Although, this time, it was my parents. The story follows the breakup of two married couples, but with an unexpected twist: the husbands of each couple got together, leaving the ex-wives to live together. The show is hilarious and is really good at connecting with older audiences, since nowadays most shows are geared toward youth. A fun show with a modern twist! What’s not to love?
4. "Daredevil"
Another amazing series. If you’re into superheroes, this is for you. Hands down, "Daredevil" is my favorite superhero show. Sure, it’s another superhero show, there are a thousand of them, but this one is different. "Daredevil is blind." Yes, a blind badass fighting crime. It’s just an amazing, must-watch for everyone.
5. "House of Cards"
If you’re into really political shows, this is for you. "House of Cards" has swept the nation, and almost everyone I know has watched it and won’t shut up about it. Set in present day Washington D.C., the show tackles a lot of political topics with a side of drama thrown in. It's a staple for anyone who likes political dramas.
6. "Marco Polo"
Finally, a historical drama comes to the list. This is one of the best historical drama’s I’ve ever seen, and I’m not a fan of historical anything. If you like history or war (there’s a lot of war), then this show is for you.
7. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt"
Arguably this is the most odd and weird show I’ve ever seen, but definitely one of the funniest. A girl is kidnapped and held hostage with a few others by a crazy preacher, and when they’re found, they try to get back to normal life. The show follows Kimmy, who decides to move to New York after she’s found. She's basically, a child living in an adult body, trying to be an adult. It's amazingly and bizarrely funny.
8. "Bloodlines"
Now, onto a thriller drama! A family member returns after being gone for a while. This show seeks to answer the question of what happened to him, and why he’s back. It's an amazingly done show that makes you think and be on the edge of your seat.
9. "Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp"
Everyone who has seen the original movie will love this, and even those who haven’t can appreciate it. With the original cast of "Wet Hot American Summer," this show is a prequel to the movie. It’s incredibly dumb and funny, but incredibly enjoyable to watch.
10. "Bojack Horseman"
Last, but certainly not least, is "Bojack Horseman." It’s like "American Dad" or "Family Guy," but with animals. Bojack is a washed up childhood star trying to find his way back into the scene. A very funny series that pokes a lot of fun at today’s Hollywood and celebrity culture.
That’s it for this week! Pick your favorite from this list and go binge your hearts out!
