Now that the holidays are once again upon us, I thought it would be a nice distraction to give a nice list of my top ten Christmas songs that are replayed during my holidays.
1. It's Beginning to Look A Lot Like Christmas (Michael Bublé).
This is a really good song to listen to in order to get yourself into the holiday spirit right after Thanksgiving ends and you're about to go gallavanting around buying your family some gifts. Outside is getting colder and possibly snowing, so a song that talks about the world beginning to look more like Christmas time is perfect to listen to.
2. Christmas Wrapping (The Waitresses).
This is a really upbeat Christmas song to hear on the car. For me, I heard this for the first time while driving to work when the roads were beginning to be kind of icy in the morning. This upbeat song got me energized for a work day as well as energized for the upcoming holidays. It is fun to sing this song since it is not like a lot of the slower Christmas songs but more like a regular modern pop song.
3. Baby It's Cold Outside (Idina Menzel).
Everyone thinks of the movie Elf when they hear this song - and so do I. This is a cute little song to sing with your boyfriend or you best friend in order to get more Christmasy. The only true version to listen to is from Idina Menzel because her voice makes the song more enjoyable and reminds me more of the holidays.
4. A Wonderful Christmas Time (Paul McCartney).
A Classic Christmas song. When snow is falling and you're sitting inside of the warm and cozy house with a cup of hot chocolate in one hand and a book in the other with a blanket covering you as you wait for the days of December to draw closer to Christmas - that is the one time I love hearing this popular song. Definitely a must listen every year for every single person who celebrates this holiday.
5. All I Want For Christmas is You (Mariah Carey).
Yes, yes. Mariah Carey's number one Christmas hit. The song that everyone has seen the video of her singing without the music involved. With the music though, this is one of my favorite holiday songs to sing to on karaoke night with a bunch of friends after wrapping presents together and eating a lot of hearty junk food.
6. Where Are You Christmas (Faith Hill).
This song, featured on How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carey, is sung by the lovely and talented Faith Hill. This song just speaks about how Christmas is not how it used to be which I am sure that a lot of people nowadays are beginning to feel. Christmas is not how it used to be a few years ago and no one truly has a reason why that fits with everyone's mind. But this song is just a nice sweet melody to listen to as you're falling asleep to snow falling outside.
7. I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus (Jackson 5).
The Jackson 5 have this stunning Christmas song that everyone loves to hear on the radio in the car. A nice little naive song about a child seeing their mother kissing their father dressed as Santa Claus is a great song to sing to while you're decorating those holiday cookies and plopping on the chocolate chips onto the warm cookies.
8. Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree (Brenda Lee).
This is played at all of the holiday parties whether it be for work or just for friends or perhaps a familial holiday party. It gets everyone into the partying mood and perhaps people do rock around a Christmas tree at those parties. It just gets everybody into the mood to dance and celebrate the holiday.
9. Feliz Navidad (Jose Feliciano).
This bilingual beat gets everybody singing along. No matter what language you originate with, this song will certainly be in everyone's top ten lists. My friends and I yearly play this song on repeat and my mother loves to sing the lyrics with silly little accents and funny dance moves. It is definitely a favorite among those I know.
10. Santa Baby (Eartha Kitt).
A sexy little Christmas jingle if I must say. I sang this to my boyfriend in the car this holiday and it really cheered us both up. Eartha Kitt's voice is a classic tune for this song and it would not be the same without it. It was even fun when my mother sang this when I was younger and she was pretending to be Eartha.
Hopefully these songs will help you get through the holidays with a smile on your face and these tunes ringing through your head. These holiday months only last for so long - might as well get these songs on replay on the radio.
