As a fashion major, people are constantly asking me what they should wear or buy. While I can suggest a few things like certain colors that might compliment their skin tone best, or suggest a cut of a dress that will flatter their figure most; I often don't like to suggest a particular style of clothing. I believe the best type of clothing are the special pieces in a wardrobe that make you feel most confident. However, I do believe there are some basics that every woman should keep in her closest.

1. The little black a-line dress.

You have probably heard that every woman should own a little black dress, but let me make it more specific by adding that it should be A-line. An A-line silhouette means that the dress is fitted to the chest and waist and then slightly flares over the hips. This Calvin Klein dress is a perfect example of what every woman should own. It can be styled perfectly for everything from a night out to a job interview.

2. A good dark wash pair of jeans.

The secret to happiness is a good pair of jeans. They should fit like a glove and highlight your assets. Dark wash, meaning the coloring of the jeans is darker, is most slimming on the body, and they are much easier to dress up. All you need to do is add a dressy top and a good chunky heel.

3. A pair of classic nude heels.

While some claim the black heel is ultimate for multi-use, I beg to differ. Nude heels go with every color dress pants, and they are perfect for every season.

4. A colorful button-up blouse.

Express has the greatest collection of these button-up blouses because they offer tons of different colors, patterns, and embellishments in the same classic style. These shirts are perfect for both work and play. Tuck them into a short skirt, and you are ready for a party. Wear it with a pair of dress pants, and rock the workplace.

5. A knit infinity scarf.

These scarves are AMAZING! They are perfect because they add a little style to a look, and, because they are knit, they keep you warm in colder months!

6. A fabulous statement necklace.

A statement necklace is basically a stand-out piece of jewelry that adds a little "wow" to your outfit! It's a fabulous way to express your personal style in your average outfit.

7. A cute cardigan.

A cardigan is must! First of all, it is perfect for transforming a summer sleeveless shirt into a fall/winter outfit. Second of all, it makes any outfit more comfy!

8. A perfectly tailored dress pant.

These are not just your basic dress pant; They should be altered to fit you perfectly. Spend the extra money buying a pair of pants you love, and then get them tailored to fit you perfectly lengthwise and widthwise.

9. A Kate Spade handbag.

I know, I know, they can be expensive, but they are worth the extra money! The leather they are made of is stain and scratch resistant, which means the bag will maintain quality! They are also stylish and professional!

10. An adorable comfy pair of flats.

Some situations just DO NOT call for heels, but you may still want to look stylish. In this case, an adorable pair of flats will still look fancy, but they will not kill your feet while walking, dancing, and working. Make sure that the flats you buy don't cause blistering; otherwise, you'll be feeling the pain for weeks.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
